fun when you're attacking, but not very fun when you're defending when you can SEE the opfor setting up a kill zone in the worst possible spot (for you) and there's nothing you can do except watch your fatlas toddle right into it.

So take the fight to them. I never understood why so many people play the most aggressive game modes so passive

I happen to like the idea that the lines on the map are forced to move instead of being the same-old same-old. It doesn't always work in your favor, but it is what it is. The same would be true of any asymmetric attack/defend mode that people are always clamoring for. I've actually had some good escort matches that wound up that way exactly because the VIP drew the fighting away from the usual places.
I suppose I like any mode that promotes camping at your own risk.
People keep asking for the game to have more depth but don't like complicated objectives. It's disappointing, but I shall use my multipliers for justice, particularly since I can't drag people into conquest on old Terra Therma any more.

at least there is a side objective to think about. Yes the game is about killing the other team, but having side objectives gives us something other than run to the middle of the map.
the biggest issue with Escort is, First, we don't know the path the VIP is taking prior, that would be a huge help to making more in depth tactics on the escort side.. And Not enough possible paths to go through often unused portions of maps.
But in reality if all escort does is stop nascar, than it is a HUGE WIN!
Boy do i wish for the old days i could just un-check Skirmish and assault and play conquest with a hard core group of players all night. Maybe now with private matches that will be a thing again.

They should bring back old Terra and use it as a Escort/Conquest combo map.. Would make for a great one on both. The outside area has lots of great spots to fight. As long as the VIP didn't go through the PUG zapper, then it would be a win/win.
IMO was the best conquest map we had.

This is particularly true of the modes that are likely to be lost if you don't think beyond just shooting the enemy: escort, incursion, conquest (at times).
This is not to say that escort does not have a few flaws, or at least it used to. I'm hoping that PGI fixed those problems, but haven't seen enough escort games since it was reintroduced to judge. If they are (mostly) fixed, the mode becomes quite reasonable and a good change of pace. I wouldn't want it every time though.

Now, with that said and out of the way:
Escort is ok if you play it by objectives.. sure, the Atlas's A.I. is rudimentary, and the mode has it's problems, but it's a great idea, and it can be quite fun if you play it properly.
I hope they improved the A.I., although it's weird they did not say anything about it being removed or returned..

If you vote for Conquest and play it like it's any other skirmish gamemode and completely ignore the points, then you're a terribad. If you vote for Conquest and play like it's not just Skirmish with a few new buildings to never use as cover, congrats. You're not an idiot!

The problem is that it forces the defending team to use an unfavorable tactic, such as often having to cross large stretches of completely open territory because the VIP decides cover isn't important, while the attacking team can set up the standard "hide behind object, alpha PPCs, win c-bills" tactic to either annihilate the defenders or CT of the RIDICULOUSLY SLOW VIP mech. The thing moves something like 30kph at top speed. You don't really have to "think outside the box", or "come up with new tactics", you just have to suicharge a defensive line because that VIP is stopping for no one and nothing, and if it gets ahead of the blob it is dead.

What I still don't get about escort is that commander and the dudes he calls "intel". So they get "visual confirmation" when the VIP gets hit, but they can't tell you where he is? Bunchaidiotsincommandasusual...
