I'm sure everyone's been in matches where your team has pulled a surprise win from an expected loss. Recently had a match where the opposite happened, and it was quite hilarious (wish I'd recorded it).

Escort game. My team managed to get a badly damaged VIP to the extraction point and with most of the enemy team down, everyone was waiting for the victory screen. Suddenly an urbie pops out of nowhere and makes a beeline straight for the VIP, right through our team. Everyone is so surprised that very few get any clear shots at the urbie (I got one salvo off I think), which then proceeds to facehug the VIP's crotch so no-one can get a clear shot at it. Seconds later the VIP goes down (not sure if that was the urbie or 'friendly fire')and we get the defeat screen - some teamates didn't even realise that we had lost.

Felt a bit salty at the time, but looking back on it have give kudos to whoever that urbie pilot was.

Canyon Network.

Grueling fighting. We go down hard, and we got a single guy left - a Phoenix Hawk, at about 65% health, but all energy weapons intact. The enemy has two assaults left. We writing it off as a loss, GGs and "good try" all around. But then we suddenly realize: The Scorch is out of ammo. The MAD-IIC that is left, has only a single ERML in the head and is badly damaged. One ST gone, the other open.

Phoenix Hawk is panicking, but we coach him. "Stay calm, the Scorch is out of ammo. Ignore him. The other is about to die, just a few hits to the other ST and he is done." He manages to get the MAD-IIC down, after taking some more damage, but, hey, he did it. We cheer him on, and he then moves to take out the Scorch. Scorch is now torso twisting, stretching it out further. We are, again, GGing and happy we're gonna get our victory out of this.

A sudden realisation.

Pub friend is inexperienced and had turned on Override. Keeps shotting the Scorch. Shouts of "TURN IT OFF!", "HEAT!", "OH GOD!" ring out. But, Phoenix Hawk friend over heats after firing off an alpha while at 95% heat, and burns through his engine, detonating in front of the unarmed Scorch.

And our Phoenix Hawk said: "ffs cant do anything right" and quit out right there, before the summary screen even came up.

Poor guy :/

I had the opposite happen earlier today, wish I had it on video.
Tourmaline desert, me and another guy left on our team, 3 enemies. I have 1 shot of lb10 ammo and 1.5 salvos of srm ammo, and quite a bit of machinegun ammo.
I'm moving around one of the "mountains" to get to a better position as my teammate dies. When I get around, I'm in the back of a mad iic. Last lb10 shot in his back, not enough. Srm salvo, down he goes.
Run into the other two, hit one of them with the remaining srms, not enough and he jj's away. Start machinegunning the other, he runs out into open area.
Decide to look for the other, who I find above me. He was badly damaged and goes down quick from my MG's. Come to think of it, he must have had no weapons left or things would probably have turned out differently.
Run back at the other guy and just continue firing mg's at him. Luckily he had bad aim or was expecting me to stop, dunno, but he was constantly hitting behind me.
Down he goes as well.

Last night on HPG Manifold, Mad IIC with good armor left, packing dual gauss and streak srms, decided to charge a beat up 12 small laser Nova at the end. He was a stationary target, about 300m out, and he put his head down and closed in. Never twisted. Lost.

i was in an fp seige game awhile back when it was still called invasion. we were on the attack side on emerald taiga. close match all the way through. last wave we get wiped out, except one light mech (i think it was a cheetah im not sure). the other team has all their lights out hunting but around the gun are about 6 perfectly fresh defenders. the ogen is down about half. the final mech which was off in a secluded camping location while we got wiped out assesses the situation. he knows that if he goes straight for the gun he will never live long enough to take it out. he knows that if he will show up on their seizmo. what he does is nothing short of amazing. he walks at the blistering pace of 5kpg to the buildings behind the ogen, where nobody is watching. he fires his er large at the gun, it flakes down abit. the enemy mechs start to get ansi, they can see the gun ticking away but nobody saw where the beam came from. he fires again. this time they are onto him, he does what he did before and creepy crawls all the way around the rear to a new position hidden in some trees. he fires two more alphas. the ogen is but a sliver from victory. at this point all hell breaks loose, a couple mediums had his position and started to close in. keeping focust on the gun he evades with his jump jets and places himself between the buildings and the center gent box. somehow they lost him. he fires another alpha just as a heavy pulls up it fires an alpha and shoots off a vestigial arm. so the light jumps up and slices the gen wide open and we win the game. the other team probibly felt the op's pain. goes to show if you are defending an objective against a sneaky adversary, you cant just wait for them to come, you have to actively patrol the area.

another fp game on forge had a similar ending, after wiping out an enemy team except a light and getting to the ogen with at least 5 or 6 mechs still intact. a spider sneaks in and takes out a heavily damaged assault. there is a minute on the clock. optimal solutions might have been to ignore the spider, or send one guy to keep him busy. at first 2 mechs peel off from the gen to get the spider. a lerm assault, the only mech that could sustain fire at the generator and not die from heat, decided to change over to the spider. with the clock at 30 seconds everyone except me was off chasing the spider. i was typing in the chat "30 seconds shoot the gen, dont chase the squirrel" durring shutdowns. it fell on deaf ears because an "easy" kill for one player is worth more than a victory for everyone. i explode 2 seconds before the clock hit zero in a desperate attempt to kill the gen with what was left of my armament. things people should have learned: play to win, play the objectives, watch the clock, and dont chase the ******* squirrel come to mind. what they probibly learned instead: my team are idiots and i did nothing wrong.

Scouting, Crimson Straits

Just as we collect 10 data points we get jumped by the whole enemy team. 4 on 4 fur ball fight ensues that we come out on top of, killing all of them and losing only one of our team.

Running out of time we all run for the LZ that is just beyond the saddle. The two mediums left (my centy and a griffin) are not going to make it, but the locus will get there with seconds to spare.

5 seconds left...the locus is almost there...4...we are going to win...3... he stops at the data point 10 feet from the LZ to collect it...2...NOOOOOO...1...WE LOSE.

All he had to do was go 10 feet in 3 seconds for the win. And this was during a event where you needed scouting wins to get something, space bucks, screaming monkeys, whatever, which just makes it hurt more.

i had that one scout match on frozen city where my rig locks up. i had to reboot, got in just to find my team dead and all 4 enemies damaged but still in fighting shape. they probibly thought they were chasing some no skill camper or a locust of doom. what they encounter is a griffon 2n in the usual configuration. first guy is a one hit. 2 more mechs crest a ridge. i dodge low to buy a little more time to assess the situation, i dont know where the 4th guy is. i opt to deal with the immediate threat. one guy takes 3 salvos and a coolshot to finish off. the other i deal with more slowly and he goes down in 2. the last mech, which was legged and slowly working his way towards me dies in one salvo. no fanfare, my team already quit they all probibly reported me on the way out because i got a penalty after that. i made the drop zone with seconds to spare. no one returned my gg. a victory but a hollow one.

Man that actually made me kind of sad for the guy , honestly i don't try to be a backseat driver when i watch people. I find it only messes up the play they are trying to make. Really the only thing i say is where enemies are or if the team should go cap points because we are about to lose on caps.
