I am thinking about getting a steam heavy pack. I would be happy with either of the IS mechs, but I am trying to decide between the 2 clan mechs, the EBJ prime and the TBR-C. I want to eventually get into clan FW after I get tired of losing FW for IS long enough. Which one would dedicated clan FWers pick. I see a lot more EBJ's than TBR's. Why is TBR so rarely seen these days?

Steam packs are objectively terrible values.

Buy a mech pack instead.

Get ebon if you like to range shoot.
Get the timber if you like to brawl.

Timber is seen less in cw mostly due to tonnage and night gyr being really powerful.

With 40% off it's not bad. The cbill boost is a cool feature on these mechs.

I like the Steam packs since they have C-bill bonus mechs.

I like the EJ better than the Timberwolf. The Wolf lost a fair bit of it's mobility recently and the EJ has a little more pod space. More importantly with the current CW tonnage rules the EJ weighs less and is a lot easier to fit into drop decks.

Plus on a side note I like Grasshoppers more than Thunderbolts.

Let's do some math.

30 dollars gets you:

3000 MC, value: approx $14 dollars
2 mech bays, value: approx $2.50
30 days premium time, value: approx 12 dollars
5 million cbills, value, .50 (I'm being generous)
1 pattern, value, approx 3.50
3 colors, value approx $12
Value before even including 2 high quality and hard to obtain 30% cbill chasis:
44.50
Now include 2 high quality and rare 30% cbill chassis on non (generally) crappy hero mechs.

Tell me more about objective values.

Actually on Sale they are a pretty good deal.

For $29.99 your getting a Ebon Jag Prime and Grasshopper 5H hero mech with the 30% C-bill bonus, plus 30 days of premium worth like $12.00, plus 3000 MC worth $15.00 and 5 million C-bills. If you break it down the mechs themselves are worth about $15.00 a piece so the full value of the pack is like $57.00.

As far as the packs themselves, I would definitely go for the Ebon Jag and Grasshopper. The Ebon Jag is easily as good as the Timber Wolf if not better plus the Grasshopper 5H is just tons better then the Thunderbolt in my opinion.

EBJ is a much better choice than the TBR if you're planning on getting into Faction Play.

The Clan side has a very restrictive dropdeck tonnage limit, so saving the 10 extra tons picking a Jag is a good deal, especially when it can carry the same builds as the TBR and more. Neither are that good at tanking due to terrible hitboxes, so the little bit of extra armor on the TBR isn't worth the 10 ton difference, and the Ebon Jaguar has higher hardpoints on the arms, so it can run the super high alpha trading builds much better and in turn end up taking less damage.

The only problem with steam packs is they Mix IS and Clan. for those of us that have separate accounts, this totally sucks.

Even together i was extremely tempted to get the light pack because for 30 bucks, it was almost worth it just for the single mech+MC+ other goodies.

I really hope next year, they split the packs up. I would of Bought at least the timber on my clan last time, and might of gotten something on IS side.

This round had a couple i would of considered. but together it's not worth it for me. If support would move a mech i would do it, but seeing they won't i can't justify the money. Posted Image

Please PGI, Split the packs or just make IS and Clan only packs. I'll bet many folks pass on them because of this issue.

OP: Ebon is a very good mech, Timber C is as well, Get both!

Personally, i'd still rather spend $40 on a Night Gyr pack.

The EBJ and GHR deal is a good deal.
