Just a friendly reminder that town hall is going on right now.

If I wanted to watch a filibuster, I'd turn on CSPAN2. :P

I just dont tire of a simple question about a single, specific subject, to be followed with what seems like 7 minutes of general rambling about everything in the vicinity of that subject and never actually answering the question.

You kidding?

I went to go see Transformers 5, instead!
It was a terrible, chaotic piece of hot garbage.
Just like this townhall is, I have no doubt.

Acting was horrible I heard in this movie.

Anyways, so far town hall has said a few things, mostly dragged out. Though they hinted at PTS testing for new tech next week or the following week.

I'm listening to it now. It's lacking in preparation from the speakers and is wandering around trying to explain ideas. I'm dubious as to the usefulness of this meeting so far.

Edit - cliff notes so far are, if we want more content (Solaris), it needs to be clearly defined with its goals and players have to pay for it. The immediate issue I see with this is PGI's track record of following through with their design goals and players having the faith to invest in a pre-order for something new.

No particular order...

- Skill Tree - Russ said it was indeed over complicated (I almost fell off my seat)... But no actual solution/fix really tabled at this stage. (begs question of why it got implemented anyway).

- FP 4.2 - Was April, now end of year. Lots of amazing stuff coming (apparently). IS v IS... Stuff we were meant to get 6-9 months ago

- MWOOC2017 - PGI not putting in money to prize pool. Hardware instead. Flight/accomm still paid for. Supporter packs "coming soon". Proper details about the Tournament up (I think) 2-3 weeks?

- Comp Mode - Russ response to inactivity in it was... "just get a team and play it" - did not actually address ANY of the flaw/issues with it. Did not understand the exclusion of (I) (O) (L) mechs etc. He said community asked for it (they did not). So yeah, no idea whats going on there

- Knock downs a potential - but not anytime soon

- Went over some balancing stuff on specific chassis, trying to explain the decisions behind some of the choices. Quirks on some mechs revisited to try define them a little differently. Honestly, not a lot of it made sense to me because lots of bad mechs are still bad. PGI powercreep from new mechs with high torso mounts etc still exist... No touching on PPFLD at all.

- Solaris talked about coming, but not this year. Player funded most likely

- New maps discussed - I can't remember the detail.

- Useless nodes - things like UAC JAM etc are getting attention. Not detailed on what. But PGI realise they need to be better than they are.

Probably some other stuff I've missed, I'm trying to work @ the same time. So sorry for being super general. I'm sure someone else will have more detail up later.

partially. They said they were going to keep monitoring the changes they want for it. the reasoning behind the weapon balancing were that they wanted to bring lasers back into a certain area for them. as a added note, clan lasers have mostly had no changes since may/April(?) of 2015. two years of no changes.

Tried to listen. Got madder and madder. When Chris said balance is base on some internally created values, I was done.

I left after they started explaining why the black Knight was nerfed down to other Mechs sizes a full month after they were.

So the sad part is that ~3 hours of town hall can be summed up in a few very short statements . . . at least compared to the long-winded rambling dribble they put out.

1. Chassis quirk balance is "iterative" and nonstop, NEVER buy a chassis for quirks unless you're willing to acknowledge that it will eventually change.

2. Russ is for adding some hardpoints to the very early and hardpoint-starved chassis of the game, and Chris is against it.

3. Weapon balance is "ongoing". The sad and pathetic part is that Russ and Chris only recently realized that most weapons in the game haven't received balance iterations in 2.5+ years. No comments on how often we'd see weapon balance iterations in the future.

4. PTS servers are used for both in-house and open PTS runs. Don't expect to see them used a lot for open stuff unless it's a "huge" feature. However, Civil War tech is coming to PTS "soon".

5. Multiple maps in progress . . . of course that's with the usual "soon" caveat on the first delivery. Russ admitted they're scared of doing any real urban maps.

6. MWOWC is NOT receiving a seeded cash prize pool. Instead they'll be working with sponsors to get "comparable" prizes (like computer hardware) along with supporter pack cash prize influx.

7. Drumroll . . . Russ's twitter announcement regarding "wanting input on the future direction of the game's development" had nothing to do with development at all, but instead had to do with wanting to get people to buy into getting Solaris added to the game. Apparently mech packs aren't "exciting" enough anymore.

8. On a final note, the mechs for the next pack were decided, and the Piranha is among them. Of course no idea when that pack is coming because he wants people to buy into getting Solaris added to the game.

I would have rather seen some possible concept art on that Piranha mech instead of that long ramble about a "possible" solaris pack with "features".

ive put hundreds of bucks into this game, i dont like having to pay a tax to gain access to the new content ive been funding. been playing a quarter of a game for the price of about 8 games and its just not worth it to fund major features. especially if they turn out like fp/competitive. the people do not want esports, they want a game.

Yeh I missed that bit.

It is "ongoing" but that is nothing specific in terms of the small laser debacle post "balance" for IS & Clan which has unbalanced things far more than it has balanced.

So I guess wait and see?

It'll become evident very quickly given how many cERML ACH's I saw in 2hrs of play last night that they have buggered it up, well, in a week or so of data it will be. I hardly saw a cSPL on any mech. NOVA/ACH or otherwise as they were nerfed into oblivion.

That said Chris commented that they even take data from Private Lobbies when looking at things. I'm not sure how that is really relevant especially when a LOT of private lobby(scrim) based stuff is essentially people playing around / testing and so on. There is no discernible/usable data to be found there IMO unless they are specifically hunting to Comp stuff (which, how do you do that?)

Not really much on weapon balance, at all, sadly, except this point I mentioned, here:

The sad part is that most of the twitch audience really wasn't much of a help, either, to be quite frank. Most of them were screaming for what mech packs they want and frigging chassis quirks. Although there were some trying to ask weapon balance questions, NGNG was obviously skipping them.

I'm also annoyed that many of the solid weapon balance questions in the forum thread weren't asked and obviously skipped over, too, in the first segment of the town hall.
