Been on MWO since beta, and this never gets me. Nothing has changed in tactics. None! Not even an invention. I asked this question one round. "Why does everyone go right after drop?". Never fails. So, next round, I became company command. I told everyone, we are going left, to throw the enemy off. Right away someone speaks up, and says "Center". Everyone agreed to him. So, in a way team never went left. (What is the point being command when team doesn't follow. I gave up command after). We lost round due to some ones making choices. So meaning no one went left at all. Center is left actually in MWO. What is it, that makes a team, no matter what map, what team side your on. Team will go center, or right. Never fails.........Never. One pug or two will prob go left. But can not figure out the minds of Mechwarriors in MWO. The right side of brain is heavier? Is the left side of brain dark, no lights on? What is it? Is the map pulling the weight of mechs to the right? I do not get it. If we could draw our plans before round starts will be good. But mean time monitor, watch, observe. Confusing as heck. So, in all every round, no matter what side your on. We know exactly where the enemy is, going to be, and how it is going to play out. Only not knowing who is going to win, or lose. I like toying with the enemy for the team. But in MWO, you can not come up with, make toying tactics. None.

TBF a lot of mech builds have their firepower on the right hand side. Which means right side poking is ideal. Left side counter Nascaring can be a good idea and can catch the enemy by surprise, but it can also backfire. Mostly depends on where your Assault lance spawns.

Lights tend to spawn on the right and everyone chase after them. Its just as bad as chasing the enemy light.

As above is said, in a right handed world with right centric mechs the right road is taken naturally as it fits these Players and Mechs the best.

Part of it is map design too. On some maps the spawnpoints encourage players to go in a specific direction to get the best tactical options.

Another part is group mentality and habbit. Every time a new map was added, people would start to prefer certain paths. If you went another way, your life was short, so you stayed with the rest of the team. This led to the standard tactics when playing with PUGs.
If you play in a team or have someone in a PUG take command, and people listening, you can use other tactics with great results. But it's rare to have 11 people listen to 1 guy in a PUG.

Public service announcement, to all those poor uni-turners, the commander calls "they are coming from the left, set up to fight the left side", and all they can do is run to the right in response, **single tear meme**. They try to mask it by saying "nascar" or "flank", but you don't have to lie guys, we can't all be ambi-turners.
