Energy assults can get picked off fairly easily. They offer deterrence only againts single enemies, because they run so hot they cant deal well several targets, not to mention more heat efficient mechs can kill them solo.

True for most. Not for all

Thanks for all the input. I appreciate it, even if I ended up shelving the Cuddly Bear for the time being. I like the evolving discussion about the viability, issues and narrow food palette of 100t assaults, too. Good job, team!

1.) This topic is about the KDK-1. The KDK-3 is the reason why alöl other Kodiaks got nerfbatted.
2.) That's mediocre stats for an assault. And you get a result like this once every 5 to 6 matches, if that.
In general, your assault stats are way worse than mine. Let's assume I know what I am doing, or at least, more than you, before you throw out the "git gud" meme. I am not great, competitive or top tier, but at least I have a positive W/L ratio.

What would improve your survivablilty is increasing the scare factor of the build. While all those pulse lasers are nice, they don't scare people as much as a LB-20 + 2 SRM6a Kodiak-1. Replace all of the hand lasers with ERSLs to complete the allroundedness.
Try out two of the max size ATMs instead of the 2 SRM6a. Wow... scare factor achieved.

Alright, so playing around on test realm I may have found a rather nice build that will propel the Kodiak 1 into the forefront of builds. First off, this takes standard armor, and endo steel structure. Then, max armor minus 11 out of each leg. Now add in an XL 400 engine with full heatsinks. Next, drop an LBX 20 and a c-laser AMS into the right torso, add 3 racks of LBX ammo where you see fit. Left torso, drop in 2 ATM 12's and follow that with 4 racks of ammo for them. I personally put in a targeting computer MK 1 in the head, dealer's choice as far as replacing that with something else.
And finally....the real surprise factor: 8 er micro lasers in the same weapon group. So weapon group 1, 8 er micro lasers, 2 LBX 20, 3 the 24 ATM. This comes out to a 112.8 firepower. Also, those micro lasers do 20.8 damage on a 0.7 cooldown at close range. Apparently, firing er micro lasers all together does not proc a significant heat spike. Why I say significant is because I notice perhaps a 2 point difference in heat generation when fired in a group as opposed 4/4.
I will continue to play with this build, but I wanted to share with my Kodiak friends this interesting new build that I think has some pretty good approach potential.
