Minimum Range in MWO for the past several years after CB had been a hardlocked "0" damage for PPCs.
The Light and the Heavy PPC are mounted on my Hunchback. At 52 meters I am doing 3.5 damage.
If I disable the Light PPC, I am doing 3.5 damage.
The Light PPC does no damage.
All three, the Light PPC, Normal PPC, and Heavy PPC all have stated Minimum ACCURACY Ranges of 90 meters in Battletech (PGI sure as hell doesn't know what "accuracy" is beyond pinpoint but that's a whole different discussion).
So any thoughts on Heavy PPC having a damage degradation while Light and Standard PPCs have hardlocked zero damage?
I'm using the academy to test weapon mechanics.

Yeah, they changed HPPC from
interpolationToNextRange="step"
to
interpolationToNextRange="exponential" exponent="2"
So I imagine it's doing about the same thing as LRMs - ramping up damage zero until it reaches minimum range. It seems really arbitrary and I'm not a particularly big fan of it.

That's the way the original PPC did it in closed beta. Though it was very linear. Thing is, apparently, it was "OP" and easily abused. Or so PGI claimed.
Honestly in BT if I can manage to hit someone with my PPC at 30 meters or less and net full damage, then I think I should be able to here. I'd be fine with a charge. That's how the Smith & Tinker / PGI MW5 depicts them in the concept pre-vis 2. Note the graphic bar for the PPC on the left or right and the distinct charging sound. Capacitors could just be an extended charge if added.
Light, medium and heavy PPCs with a charge time.
Snub and ER PPCs without.
All weapons effective at 0 meters.
This simulates the minimum accuracy range (can you still land the hit after charging up when the enemy is zipping by at 13 meters?) and produces a game-able dynamic.

Do the light ppcs do no damage at 90m and below? I thought they did full damage but had shorter range than normal ppcs. If they have the same limit of 90m or nothing I won't be trying them on my mechs. My mechs will just stay with lasers for less heat and almost same amount of damage.
I was hoping to finally put sub or light ppcs on the K2 and panthers.

They are 90 or nothing.
Their rapid fire and low heat more than make up for it if you're used to it.
But back them up with some small pulse and/or MGs to keep enemies at bay.
You might be thinking Snub Nose PPCs.
Snub does the full 10 damage and has something like half the range and no minimum range.

Classic (sort of) K2 might be fun again. My aim with ppcs is really bad but I guess more practice in combat will fix that.
