We're closing in on four years of this game and we still don't have chat scrolling, a tell / private message alert, channel filters, or even chat screen location memory. A vast majority of games three months into production already have this stuff.
My only question is why? What, other than greed or incompetence, could possibly be the reason that these basic features aren't installed into a game four years after release?

T H I S!
It still boggles my mind how we can expect any sort of player base outside of the I-grew-up-with-battletech crowd when players are basically alone and in the dark.
Don't give me this "oh they can just hop on a team speak server" either. That's for dedicated team members. If you want a player to take to this game, he's got to be able to quickly reach players willing to explain things, as well as have a socal aspect to his experience.
You are NOT going to be able to program ever-expanding game experience to make up the difference of boredom, you retain players by best allowing them to socialize with each other. THAT has been why Free to Play works. All those extra bodies add value to the experience of a game.

They really are building the game from the ground up.
If I were to complain it would be about lack of story, atmosphere, NPC's and so on.
Like I have said 20 times, whats in game is first rate, its whats missing that sucks.

Mind if I echo that quote later on? "what's in the game is first rate, it's what's missing that sucks"
You articulated my feelings about this game perfectly. For all my complaining, I keep coming back, because I enjoy the mechanics of the gameplay.

Well, we have third party products for that right? TS and the other communication programs. From PGI's perspective, its "why bother if someone else does it for us already?

I wish they'd follow this same logic and actually allowed someone with a clue to make MWO instead of themselves.
