On the same PC over the course of a day.
I don't know how it happened, and I don't know why, but damn do I miss playing without FPS spikes.
A sad solo violin is playing somewhere for me right now I know it
And don't ask me what the point of this post is, the point is my sadness, lol.

In that one video example there was a video disabled futurama episode playing in the background at some ridiculously low CPU percentage. I have not recorded the near 100 other games I have run in test attempting to get rid of this spiking effect.
I should have mentioned. The futurama is not causing it.

Then don't salt your demos with bogus variables.
Is something else running in the background? Is your PC overheating and throttling? I'm assuming you tried restarting it.

If it didn't take so long to upload video I might make more examples, this post is just to express my sadness, I already have a post based around trying to fix the issue;

And yes I have tied turning it off and on again.

The word spike isn't indicative of a direction, just of the shape of a sharp angle, which these drop-offs or stutters or whatever we should call them, would show up in spike shape on a graph.
ive always used 'dips' in place of 'spikes' to indicate negative direction. years of staring at oscilloscopes have conditioned me to avoid imprecise language.

But then what would you call literal spikes hanging downward from a ceiling?

I think honestly that's mostly the map, grim plexus is a beast.
If you look at the second match in the video, when my guy looks over to that same spot on the map the FPS dips to 50ish (after the direwolf goes down) in the "good" video.
And yes, good eye, there are little spikes I noticed this also, but they barely last a split second, and never go into the red, and also I think there's bound to be some of that during the games in the best of circumstances for my PC at least.

Gah you are just driving my fastidiousness further lol (anything to distract me from the sadness is welcome), does that mean he would call a stalagmite a spike? What about man made spikes hanging downward for a ceiling? What about spikes running horizontally?

Yeah if I was looking at ceiling spikes I would be less concerned about what to call them and more concerned about the architectural intentions of the building I am currently in, this is true. Nonetheless, even if they started to descend, if someone beside me yelled "These dips are about to impale us!", I might correct him, if I wasn't too busy trying to get out.

now lag spikes work as its a measure of how much latency you have, since positive == bad, spikes indicate the bad thing. also goes to show how much context affects the meaning of words. im talking data analysis, not cave structures.

Although I almost always have firefox in the background since I browse the web while waiting for matches to start..
But it didn't used to happen before the aforementioned patch..
PGI has actually said the recent framerate drops and disconnects were not their fault, they could not find and fault in the servers and that we should check with our ISP's..
ALL OF US, no matter which corner of the world we are in, or what ISP we use.. should check with our ISPs..
For me, that was a slap in the face really..
Just PGI "working as intended" I guess..
