I vastly prefer conventional PUG tactics over conventional wisdom.

First, split into three disparate groups, and make half hearted attempts at moving into roughly the same geographical area. Then, make sure you disperse over as large an area as possible when searching for first contact.

Once first contact is made, everyone needs to make a beeline directly towards it. Make sure to ignore obvious cover.

If any other enemy mechs are spotted, stop. Mill around a little. If you encounter more than 2 enemy mechs, reverse directly into a wall, making sure you don't shoot.

All that's left after first contact is to peek one at a time at the enemy firing line, die, and whine at everyone else for the rest of the match.

The sad thing is, that this really happens.

a lot of maps play the same in 8 out of 10 games.

Caustic, hpg for instance.

It immediately becomes a circling move, both teams trying to find opportunistic targets in the back of the opposing teams nascar train.

Quite boring. Plays out the same each time.

Bad map design is the major problem. Something pgi doesnt really understand.

They made the new forest colony insanely big, but in most instances it turns into a nascar run around the center hill. Almost each time.

Pretty boring.

Same goes for Mining, even though that map is awesome.

Mwo players are a problem too.

They try to find easy targets and desperatly scramble to find the other teams tail.

And ppl actually complain about sniping haha.

****....sniping is a kazillion times more fun on maps like Tourmaline, Grim or the snow maps.

Like, 10 kazillioni times more fun.

Thats what ppl associate with brawling. Running in circles haha. Which is pathetic.

If you wanne earn cbills easy and kill mechs nonstop and enjoy those nascar games....

Get a shadowcat with full survival, one coolant, one uav, full ecm, 3 cssrm 6s, 2 small lasers and just immediatly go where the enemys tail nascar train will most likely be. Youll pile up dmg even in stomps youll have done a lot of dmg and destroyed components or mechs at the other teams tail end.

Its quite boring though. After a while it gets stale. Which is why i dont really understand why everybody votes hpg all the time.

Games play out very similarly every time.

But players want the average 3 - 5 min game. Fast. Arcade. Run and gun. Next game.

Thats what ppl enjoy.

Everything is nerfed into the ground when it threatens this easy going, circling nascar playstyle. Doesnt really matter what you bring.

If you are dumb...you take an assault or slow heavy. They get left to die every second game because they cannot catch up the nascar train.

Ppl complain about sniping....but on how many maps can you actually really snipe?

Gauss and ppcs get nerfed into oblivion. Long range lasers burn time pathetically long.

Evybody wants the nascar circle game which totally bores me to death haha.

Stupid brawling.

Watch enemy at the gates if you think sniping is boring.

If you think chasing the nascar train to shoot left behind assaults in the back is more fun, you got no taste and never will have any taste.

Cause thats what u call brawling in most cases in mwo.

Nascarchasing. Shooting slow assaults and heavies in the back. Boooooooooooooring.

Not even a challenge.

Not even a real fight. Fall asleep each time.

Only time I get excited is when theres big firing lines, good oldfashioned sniping, some lights or skirmishers trying to attack the flanks or the back and nobrainer brawlers just get terminated brutally.

Yeah....thats fun. That makes me smile.

Well there's different playstyles to consider, some find peep sniping boring, others find brawling boring etc.

One of the biggest problems with QP is there is pretty much no pregame, even in a group the discussion rarely seem based around builds that synergise, people are more often concerned with tonnage. There are many different valid play styles and tactics that apply in team fight games like this, but in a quickplay there can potentially be 12 different people on the same team running 12 different builds that accommodate different tactics, so playing well to your specific build can be detrimental to a specific game etc. This is the biggest reason that I consider QP a madhouse, and it is kind of "unfixable" if one wanted to keep a quickplay system.

It is definitely depressing to me when someone or myself calls incoming enemies from a specific direction, which to some people means, turn to cover that angle, and to others means, circle around and flank, both of which have logic to them but once one guy turns to circle, it can quickly turn into 3, then 6, then suddenly its a nascar, as what is the "front" becomes a staggered retreat.

Very few of the games I play turn into nascaring. Pushes happen on the right, on the left, or in the center (or, you know, not at all...).

Caustic, HPG and Mining, which were mentioned as playing out the same every time, I find to have a LOT of variety in how they play out.
In fact, HPG and Mining are my two favourite maps.

Maybe I have different experiences because I try be aware of what's happening and what could be the best move at any given moment, not just go by "what everyone always does"?
Or maybe it's because I either play assaults, and as such kind of dictate where the team goes, or go to the assaults at the beginning of the matches when i'm not playing assaults...

I've had pretty much the worst 24 hours of my mechwarrior career thanks to nascar *******.

It's a completely stupid way to play and means that the whole team ends up spread out and picked off while anyone even vaguely observant enough to call out whats going on gets told to stfu. I'd rather just eject than play yet another nascar death race.

Seriously when one guy is rabbiting on over coms about his useless frickin build while the team are getting flanked from behind by a ppc shadowcat it doesn't help if they tell the person whose giving a warning that they're 'speaking with a **** in their mouth'.

Is it really that difficult to read a frickin map in the first two minutes and see that you're about to lose!!!

and I'm not even particularly good at this game!
