the refund ledger shows the hxp and hsp available for the CHASSIS and if you buy a new MECH of the variant you can move it from the variant to that mech.
look at it as a tree where you have a root of the variant and infinite branches for the mechs.
selling a mech removes a branch of the tree and all the leaves (xp and sp) of the branch are gone too.
