Taking a break isn't going to fix the problem because your coming back to the same maps.
What will fix the problem is first removing or heavily revising the map voting system. It really is ridiculous that maps like Terra Therma, Viridian and a few others hardly ever get played while maps like Grim Plexus and HPG get thrown at you 3 out of every 4 matches.
The second thing is getting us new maps already. Seriously we should be seeing a new map at least every 3 months if not every month. I mean there isn't a week gone by where there isn't at least one or two threads begging PGI for new maps. I should be OBVIOUS to PGI that more than anything else, that is what we need in this game.
So until those two things get fixed, we are stuck playing 2-3 maps 80% of the time.

So Polar and HPG show up less, because they get chosen more, whereas Terra and Viridian show up more, because they get chosen less.
Also, less Skirmish...

seems over the past few weeks, map selection has not been varied by much, but even when it is, the voting takes you to a very overplayed map. but the mode, I seem to see Escort and Incursion combined together more than any combo. I have no stats to back it up, just what I seem to see
EDIT
was typing while Monkey made his post. but I agree

I know, that this game is struggling with population, but such thing only drive even more players away from this game. As you may know, Firefall was closed just yesterday. It also was game, whose developers refused to listen to players' feedback and had some controversial and vague direction of development instead. May be MWO has already passed some critical point, so there is no way back, but it's obvious, that if PGI will continue towards this direction of development - their fate will be the same.

I'll drag all you buggers down to terra therma with me eventually.

At the next townhall, make it a primary discussion that random mode/map selection should be introduced back to QP.
Surprisingly enough this may also impact the meta of the QP environment as well, since the player base would no longer be able to game the selection to always prefer colder climates.

and we got this voting crap so this time I am going to take my own advice (don't complain you will only make things worse) and not say anything

I doubt it. I see Tourmaline picked almost every time it comes up, and Caustic gets voted for on a regular basis, too. So there are already plenty of people voting for hot maps. And don't use Terra Therma as an example, people hate it not because it's hot, but because it's hot AND dark, and I doubt there's a single person in this game who likes using that goddamn night vision mode.

It's not based on subjective factors, like visibility. It's based on objective factors, like whether this map is Meta-biased and balanced or not.
So, when Polar, City, Forest and Plexus are offered for voting, what map is being voted for? It's obvious!

What in the blue blazes are you talking about? This is nonsense.

Are you failing to remember the massive salt dumps that happened on the forums when people got "bad" maps several games in a row?

That is very unlikely to happen as it lengthens the time it takes the matchmaker to fill a match.

how is that map hot? i think its more of a cold map in a desert setting but maybe its just me. what more irritating is where the fight almost always takes place at which is dead center. 700m snipe wars here we come

Stop using terms like subjective and objective when you obviously don't know what they mean.

Well, i see only 1 good map in the green part of the list and that is Tourmaline Desert.
In the Yellow Part i like Caustic Valley.
Then in the orange part Crimson Strait is a nice map.
All other maps are avrage at best to outright bad like Grim Plexus!
So, now that i have a good Internet again and would come back Map Rotation would drive me away pretty soon.
I will give it a try when the new tech patch arrives but i expect a week or two of playing mwo at most atm.
PS: Every time when i did play MWO with map voting the Tormaline Desert Map was pretty much never voted so it is maybe a 3% chance for me to play at a map i like.
Without map voting it was about 5 times more that i coiuld play on maps i liked the most!

Perhaps it is simply the perception I carry, I rarely see people pick what would be considered hot maps unless the other choice is quite obviously a warmer map.
Caustic picked over polar? Highly unlikely.
Caustic picked over any city map? Possibly, by nature of the design of (EDIT, not "polar") caustic over the city maps.
I would gladly accept map mode selection with a random map selection (Sorry to say but everything becomes DM when objectives mean nothing in value.) So perhaps that is a viable middle ground?
