Greetings All,

Allow me to take a moment of you morning/day/evening/night to talk about the slowly approaching (Literally) onslaught that is the Annihilator.

Lets start by saying that these behemoths are the battlemech equivalent of the Imperial AT-AT Walker.

Just so you don't seem like a fool to your friends these guys are AT-ATs.

Posted Image

Hopefully you've seen Episode 5 and watched these bad boys in action, slow right? How slow do you think an Annihilator will be? Faster perhaps? Well no.... Fortunately though, PGI's taken our advise as a community and given it a max engine cap of 300, so fast as a Dire Wolf.

So when the time comes next week and you're on the team with one of these monstrosities, here's a few helpful tips.

1. Don't let your Annihilator get flanked. All his guns are facing the main force, don't let a few sneaky buggers get around him or you'll be scraping bits off the floor for weeks.

Posted Image

2. Don't be a ****, escort your Annihilator. I'm specifically talking about this ***** (Not Luke), he just abandons those AT-ATs, my guess is he went to chase a squirrel, and look what happens to them while he's gone.

Posted Image

While he doesn't have much speed he has more power than you could possibly imagine. Case in point.

Posted Image

Annihilators need their hands held. You'd help an old man walk across the street right? right?

3. You've probably worked out by now that Annihilators will be slow. You could probably use your slow *** Annihilator as bait, to lure in some sneaky buggers before moving in for the kill/s.

Posted Image
(Seriously, if you haven't seen OtaKing77077's Tie Fighter video on Youtube, go check it out)

4. If you're working with other Annihilators, work as a team. Cover each other's flanks and co-ordinate.

Posted Image

5. If you're taking your Annihilator out for a stroll, don't get tunnel vision, keep aware of your surroundings and where your teammates are. I think these guys got a bit too eager when chasing the trash.

Posted Image

6. Lastly, can't say this enough, don't let lights get close to your Annihilator.

Posted Image
or this will happen.
Posted Image

If you happen to be versing these juggernauts please keep these in mind.

1. Don't walk in front of it, not unless you want to be this guy.

Posted Image
or these guys...
Posted Image

2. If you're looking to get close to an Annihilator, don't run straight at it.

Posted Image

Try to get around it, force it to turn towards you so it's not shooting at the main force. The longer you keep it occupied the better your team's chances of winning.

3. A flanked Annihilator, is a dead Annihilator. That armour's too stronk, aim for the neck.

Good Luck.

Clan Diamond Shark approves of this public service announcement, mostly due to the huge amount of gifs involved.

Also, unlike the AT-ST, your guns aren't at the top of your mech. Whenever you can, choose side poking over going over ridges. Your head is gonna be an easy target while you get your guns high enough to clear the ground.

As a follow-up to the op, for annihilator pilots (and a reminder to other assault pilots), your duty isn't to keep up with friendly lights. Your duty is to keep up with your heavies. Don't insist that your lights escort you. They're not there for that.

New light pilots, your duty isnt to hold your assaults' hands to the front line. They have more armor and weapons than your entire mech weighs. They traded the ability to be nimble for more guns and more armor. You traded guns and armor for speed. Play yoir mech. Not your teammate's.

Heavies, your role is to be the main strike force. Put on the hurt, but don't take more damage than you need to just to shield your assaults. If your assaults refuse to move up, pull back and make THEM the tip of the spear. They have way more armor than you.

To all, if your assaults are pushing, call it out. Form up behind them and be the blade to their spear tip. FAN OUT once you meet heavy enemy contact. Your assaults will need to cycle back to keep alive and preserve the amount of guns you have on the field. DO NOT STALL behind them. Take over. If possible, have someone call targets. Mark them with the command wheel. 4 annihilators dakka-ing the same guy will take them out in seconds. Four annihilators vs an entire team however, will get smashed. Assault pilots, please save yourself the grief and stop looking at your teammates as ablative armor and wet nurses.

That's all i can think of for now.

you win an internet. please collect it at the internet place. its customary to bring an ar15, just point it at the guy and tell them you are there to collect your internet, he should give it to you. after all youve earned it!

ive been drilling in a dire wolf. got an absurd number of 1000+ point games without spending a single skill point in the mobility tree. then i started derping around because i made a mistake and played during the weekend when all the weekend warriors were selfishly hoarding their armor desperately trying to qualify for the event. when they could have hung around and picked off the mechs i was hammering so we could win. its like they are allergic to combat or something. and its not like i was off in the corner sniping, i was with the group facing enemies who had fewer numbers than we did shooting at them, and everyone snuck off so they wouldnt die instead of joining in on the barrage.

Thanks for tactical advice. I quote this for further clarification:
AT-AT-Pilots

Quote

The Empire’s combat drivers are trained to handle everything in the Imperial ground arsenal, but AT-AT pilots see themselves as elite[...]

Protecting AT-AT means protecting an elite pilot in the most dangerous lang-vehicle... So assisting THIS ONE WILL make a difference in the combat.
Conclusion: Protecting ANH pilot is the key to victory because all of them are seasoned elite-pilots with best weapons in the galaxy!

Some questions:
In Imperial Army we had a great tactic that worked everytime: Deathball. But what do I protect if I have an ANH, an DWF, an HGN and an MAL in my team choosing different ways?
In Emperial Army the fellow ATAT-Pilots were not allowed to leave their workspace untill the end of the battle. But what do I do If ANH Pilot has to go to 00 or his/her child wakes up? Or (s)he sets his/her social state to Disconnected? Sorry, never encountered this problems on Imperial Army... have to ask.

As a staunch and extremely loyal Star Wars and Imperial loyalist I approve of this message will escort my Annihilators while playing the Battle of Hoth OST, and spout every line from the Walker Commander and other stuff about rebels, and if we win I'll play this at the end of the match.

it's only fitting to do so.

Nice post. Would like more than once if I could for the Star Wars gifs. I just had to point out the above one as this Rebel soldier dives almost as well as an italian soccer team.

As a side note, you Dire Wolf fans will have a partner in crime when it comes to your speed. Stay close to the Annihilators, support each other, build a mountain out of the enemy mechs you wreck.

You repeat yourself and that what you say applies to any Mech.
Getting flanked is bad.
Stay together.
Bla.

I don't say it wasn't good advice. It's just completely unrelated to the Annihilator.
Nice puns, though.
