ok what if Weapons did different Damage vs Armor & Structure,
what if some weapons did increased Damage Vs Armor?
and other weapons did increased Damage Vs Structure?
How would this Change MWO, and how we use weapons?

Lets assume the Damage increase is only +20% / -20%
-
weapons like Medium/Large-Lasers, SRMs, LRMs, UACs, ACs, & Gauss,
would do 20% more Damage vs Armor but 20% less vs Structure?,
-
weapons like Small-Lasers, PPCs, SSRMs, LBXs, MGs, & Flamers,
would do 20% more Damage vs Structure but 20% less vs Armor?,

in essence,
a UAC10 would do 12Dam vs Armor but only 8 vs Structure,
an LBX10 would do 12Dam vs Structure but only 8 vs Armor,

would this be an interesting addition to MWO,
mixing up play as Players switch between weapons to capitalize on weaknesses?

Thoughts, Comments, Concerns?
Thanks

  • LocationStill doing ungodly amount of damage, but with more accuracy.

By lore pulse lasers are more effective against armor than regular lasers. Cause of the way the armor vapor reduces the effectiveness of the regular laser beam, once melted. Perhaps make it so that it does bonus damage to armor but less against structure?

I thought the title was going to mean a suggestion around making some weapons attached to the outside of your armor and some being considered internal guns, which could be an interesting way to distinguish from arm and torso guns, with arm guns being destroyable even when armor is full... But lol anyways...

It could be interesting to see some kind of effect like this, but it could be risky in just making the armor targeting weapons all the more popular as it is always the primary target, and by the time armor is stripped, a mech is exposed to many other dangers. Still, could be interesting.

Possibly at a diminishing rate for vs armor, like +10% damage vs armor, -20% vs structure, or -10% vs armor +20% vs structure?

Machine guns basically do this as it stands. Mech rifles, if they ever added them would do less damage to armor, more to structure as well.

Now, weapons that do varying damage to equipment? I'm all for that. LB-X's that can scour exposed components of anything crittable far more easily than a single PPC bolt, for example.

Like if each pellet had a good chance of breaking a weapon when connecting with exposed components? Yeah that could be really nice, similarly with cACs stream, each bullet decreases the guns PPFLD, but could increase effects like this and crit chances etc overall. Interesting thoughts.

Mechs have 2x armor compared to internals, if weapons capabilities against armor is nerfed the weapon is nerfed in most cases. Like your UAC10/LB10X case.

which is another reason increasing internal structure makes sense.

because then you can have weapons be worse against armor but better against structure, and it wouldnt be a nerf
