Behold, my dearly beloved brethren of the battlefield, we gather today to mourn the loss of a friend, lol.

This was going to be my favorite mech. When I heard it was finally coming to MWO, I plunked down the money so hard, so fast lol. For me, the Uziel was always one of the quintessential gladiators of the Mechwarrior franchise; I mean, this thing is a legend.

When PGI released the low-poly preview, I was stoked. Stompy little monster looked amazingly Kick@$$ Posted Image

I liked it so much, I went ahead and added the hero mech to my preorder. Told all my friends how my other mechs were gonna be orphans when this thing came out, haha. Was soooo excited...

but, all that is dead now. Just like my favorite mech. Because THIS:

just don't look anywhere near as awesome as what they originally showed us. The subtle changes they made to the mech's stance (particularly due to its weird center of gravity, its dinky arms, and its awkwardly large, crooked legs) have completely altered its overall aesthetic. It went from looking really aggressive and intimidating, to utterly goofy and comical. Tbh, my poor nerdy lil' mechwarrior heart is broken.

Ah well. *raises a glass for the dearly departed* Guess its back to my old Jagermech...Posted Image

made the same mistake based off the sneak peak of the Annihilator.

Mind you it didn't get jobbed near as bad as the Uziel (or mkII) but..... *pours40oztothememoryofmyhomie*

i still think the UZL will need Torso Armor Quirks, but we will see,
im sure if it suffers bad they will HotFix in some Armor Quirks for it,

im mostly bothered by the Bowed Legs of both the UZL and MC2, but i can live with them looking slightly odd,
if others would like to see it change thats ok, but im more worried about it being Survivable then its 2Left Feet, ;)

man, this is the kind of mech I remember in my heart. Aggressive-looking little raptor, stalking prey as it patrols through the jungle. That kind of look. thats what i thought they were going for. But.. what we got delivered just doesn't look anything like that.

never buy a mech pack before release unless you A) reallly reallly reallly are in love with that mech or B) it has a sweet preorder deal that can make up for anything..

concept art is nothing to ever go by. that and without seeing quirks / mobility stats theres no way to tell if its potato or not..

The Uziel is so ugly I'm tempted to get one. It looks like a killer lightbulb.

Yup, designed and animated by the original designer of the Uziel for MW4. In my opinion, the Uziel's lower leg needs to be lowered to allow it to seem to have good center of gravity instead of it being to forward that it will tip over forwards. At the same time lowering the overall height of the Uziel.

Just looking at this walk animation, the lower leg almost runs parallel to the ground when it steps forward.

I never played MW4 and have no nostalgic attachments to the Uziel. But that MW4 version looks a million times better.

if PGI had the animators from HBS they might be able to do that. But while the modeling is usually good or better here (with some notable fails, this being one) walking animation seems to be a consistent point of criticism.

If you live by the quirks, you die by the quirks on the next balance pass.

Hardpoints, Approximate Hitboxes and the visual design are really the only relative constants, and thus, the only sensible things to base a purchase on.

Otherwise you end up in the bittervet masses crying because their favorite meta uberquirk got nerfed.

A parent loves their child no matter how ugly they are, you should be ashamed of yourself. I will always love my Annihilators.

The only civil war mech that looks good IMO is godzilla , the rest look rather strange.

Agreed. Model themselves are usually quite good. Walking animation is something I do find a bit off as well. This goes for chicken walkers and standard walkers. I feel that most mechs when stepping forward do not step forward enough. At slow speeds it looks okay but when going faster, this makes the mechs look like they are making faster tiny steps instead of increasing their stride + quicker steps to get better speeds.

It is very pronounced in the bigger mechs so namely heavies and assaults. Take something like the King Crab and you get something that bounces up and down quite violently. How I would change it is when going at max speed, its crouch would be lesser to allow the upper leg to step forward a bit more allowing it to take a bigger step.

I initially wanted to say that the CryEngine have limitations that prevent 2-3 different walking/run animations possible but after a quick run around with a Linebacker, it has at least 3 different walk animations. But if you see the way it runs at 104km/h, the upper leg doesn't even move vertical with the mech's centerline from the side.

If anything, it should be similar to my sig of the Mad Dog from MechCommander 1. Look how much forward the upper leg traverses forward. The Linebacker was really doing maybe 4-5 tiny steps to reach its max speed whereas the Mad Dog from Mech Commander 1 takes 1-2 large strides.

If they could un-cross the Uziel's legs, to make it less "I need to urinate" and more "come at me, bro!" that would be great.

If they could increase the arm volume by decreasing the torso volume, that would be amazing.

The Annihilator at least looks awesome even if its lore accurate height will be the death of it.

Awesome might be a stretch, but it is acceptable, if suboptimal. It is the least butchered anyways of the 4.
