As per the title - Clan ACs have been a placeholder since their inception. Now that we have all this new sparkly technology, is it time to give them a place?

The main issue I see is having to update existing builds but this could be done by simply adding one extra ton of ammunition. Thoughts?

I think i would be better to increase the weight/cool down and make them a 1 slug weapon like IS has.

Just increase their velocity

A 1200 M/s cAC20 sounds like a adequate trade off to a 650 M/s cUAC20, doesn't it?

Less (well, half) damage potential, for more accurate hits.

No. Clan UACs are already 1 ton lighter than standard IS ACs.

I'm with McGral. Just increase the velocity. Perhaps not to 1200 m/s on the 20, 950 m/s ought to be sufficient.

Clan ACs should work exactly like IS ACs and fire single slugs

Give them higher heat and longer cooldown to balance out the longer ranges

So for example, the Clan AC20 would fire a single 20 damage slug at 360m instead of 270m but also have a 4.5 cooldown instead of a 4.0 cooldown. And 7 heat instead of 6 heat. And less crit health as well.

I personally am miffed that IS UAC2 is sub-par compared to CUAC2. It costs as much as CUAC5 in terms of tonnage and slots, and is inferior than CUAC2!

Clan ACs should never have existed in the first place.

Gimme Protomech ACs, please. Or alter the stats of cACs to match them, so we don't end up with a series of trash guns when the 3073 update hits.

IS wouldve been better off getting the Light AC2 and Light AC5. Thats what IS actually needed.

But they do exist.

And making them viable makes more sense than than removing them.

No. Paul's placeholder abominations exists. I was serious- put in the (P)AC 2-4-8 instead. It'd be early, but it'd be canon and not require horrible rebalancing to make good later.

Adding Protomech weapons is silly when theres no Protomechs in the game.

AFAIK there aren't even any stock Protomechs equipped with Protomech ACs.

Fairly weak reason to not add them.

UACs are too RNG for me to like, literally double or nothing guns. I use them of course because it is double damage why would I NOT utilise double damage? But I don't like them.

Making UACs the stream fire weapon and all ACs as solid slug, is certainly one way of making a distinction, but, if you do that, you make both UAC and LBX look like turdguns. So I am not really for that idea myself (I know you could just buff thse two weapons to compensate, but ew... Shouldn't the weapon types be somewhat balanced by nature not solely by weird mechanics?

ACs as short burst fire (like 3 pellets in a stream as base) versus the spreading nature of LBX, and the longer stream and chance to jam of UAC, works much better IMO, though if it were up to me, I would cut them from double or nothing weapons, to dealing either .5 damage or 1.5 damage of the AC counterpart, depending on a jam.

But should clan ACs be lighter than UACs? Currently, yeah I would agree to that, uac20 should in no way be lighter or smaller than an ac20, that is just weird, considering I can choose to fire it like an ac20.
