Based on what I've seen from the weapon loadout pictures of the Cougar, heavy lasers look the same as ER and pulse lasers. To differentiate them from other laser types, the lens housing can be made hexagonal. This is how they're represented on Battletech miniatures and on the official omnimech configuration pictures on their website:

Fair enough. Shouldn't be too difficult for them to do either.

Hexagonal is actually much more simpler to both model and render than something round.
Although admittedly, it's a marginal difference in total.

I guess the reason why it's not done is that copy&paste something existing is even less work than creating something new, as tiny as it may be.

If you ask me, all the lasers types and sizes should be different.. I would love it if I could visually differentiate between smalls and larges.. Its stupid that a small laser and a large laser takes up the same box on saaaay, a Gargoyle arm? Exactly the same, in spite of being several tons lighter..

Also, ER, Pulse and Heavy should differentiate.. ER should be square, Pulse round, and Heavy hexagonal.
