I run 1-2 points on lights and long range mechs, 2-3 on everything else, 4-5 on brawlers with large rears. But generally... 2-3 points rear. It's enough to protect me from laser washes critting my components early in a match. Any more than that won't do you any good, because it's only gonna protect against bigger weapons if you put 10+ rear armour, and that's waaayyyyy too much rear armour, you get hit in the rear so rarely, it's not worth it.

I tend to run 6-8 in the back, but lately I feel that's too much. I rarely die through the rear.
I find rear armour is more useful on short-range brawlers. Playing like that, I always felt it's harded to keep the rear arc safe.
On stuff like Jagers I mainly run some rear armour because I'd feel strange going completely without.
