Used it in PTS, didnt really find out why you should slot this.

Now using it in live, and again i'm either blind or it just seems to have no special use over the normal ECM atleast none that is worth 12 slots/LFF?

ECM; If you have the skills anything further than 300m~(bap, skills etc etc) cant target you, tag counters your ecm, narc counters your ecm, ppc turns it off for a while.

Stealth armor activated; nothing can target you when you get closer than 300m~, meaning there is no point in activating stealth armor when targets are further away than 300m as there is no gain. Tag counters stealth armor, narc counters stealth armor, PPC disables ECM which in turn disables stealth armor. During this time you do not dissipate heat. And to my experience, makes it so you yourself cant target anything yourself. Really wonky if you ask me, test it yourself. Go into a battle or proving grounds, go see a target, activate stealth armor. Wham, targets are gone, but other times you have no problem finding targets... WAT

So can someone please explain when a good time to use stealth armor is?

Is it just a 12 slot sink for the very short range skirmishes where you dont want people to have a dorito? could be nice when you want to hide that open ST from being spotted. But other than that, cant see the benefit that weighs up the cost.

Nothing can target you ever is my understanding. Its how it was working. There is no red box at all. When i was running it in the group of people in pug land i could tell most had no idea i was on the other team. Just use a gauss and they can't even tell your firing at them

But the thing is, if you're standing further away than 300~ you get this effect anyway.

And at that close range, one shot and you're going to be found in no time.
Currently using ghillie with stealth armor and gauss. Literally cant find a use for this 12 slot sink.

That on top of the wonky targeting glitchiness you get yourself are really giving me no reason to slot stealth armor.

For long range, you wouldnt even bother activating it since it does nothing.

Nope, what stealth does is also obscuring your heat signature. Its lets you look like a shut down mech.
Active ECM mechs are still white in normal/cold environment.
This makes it very interesting when vegetation is around. You might be able to stand 300m behind somebody and he wont see you even if he glaces at you.

It's somewhat like real stealth which is not only about reducing your RADAR cross section but also your heat signature. Look at F-22.

I haven't used heat vision in almost 2 years. Have no issue spotting ECM mechs at even long range. So find it hardly worth 12 slots and picking over LFF just to negate heat vision with the cost it has when being used.

Also, not to mention the fact that it hides enemy doritos from yourself when you use it, meaning vegetation is making it harder for you to hit the enemy than it is for the enemy to find you.

Still dont see how 12 slots and not taking LFF is worth negating heat vision.

Any other reason why one should be using stealth armor?

It's a perfect hard counter to LRMs, streaks. And the anti-thermal effect is much bigger than you make it out to be, that's the number one way to get caught doing a sneaky flank or escape on a map like Verdant Hell or Forest Full of ******* Fog.

It doesnt counter LRMs more than ECM does.

Narc counters it, Tag counters it, ppc counters it and im starting to wonder if BAP actually counters it, since it counters the ECM.

I find that the #1 reason you get caught when doing a sneaky flank is the fact that you are still visible on seismic, Eyeball mk1 and as soon as you fire they will know in what direction you are.

That could be your impression, not reality. But how well you see things doesn't matter because you are not trying to see your own mech now are you.

I often get asked when using heat vision on tourmaline as I'm the last ECM sniper around, why I use it. On short range it does pretty much nothing, kinda makes it worse to see which way the enemy mech is facing, but on long range all mechs stand out so hard when using heat vision on hot map. I just often can't have the time to take it off when the enemy finally surrounds me.

The effect is much bigger on hot maps. On regular maps both heat vision and night vision cut off at distance, making it really difficult to see anything further away.

Two examples.

There are mainly friendly mechs visible about 900-1100 meters ahead. And can you see the two UAVs above them?
Spoiler

In heat vision, all are so clearly visible even though they are very far.

Still not really justifying 12 slots.

Well then its just pilots preference. If its ineffective then you won't be harmed by it on the battlefield. Just pretend it was never added.

I think it's quite a gimmic too. Worst is those slots are not dynamic but fixed, easily lowering your firepower.

I like it, but it's annoying that the slots are so weird, it needs to be dynamic slots just like endo and ferro.

I agree its a gimmick that fits a very certain role/use. And I also acknowledge its an ADDITION to the game and for certain playstyles. So i think it was a good add.

My personal feedback is just, its a bit underwhelming. I've seen a lot of people use it on medium to long range in both PTS and live and it ticks me off, because there is no reason to be doing that other than to hide people from spotting you with thermal. But on those maps you are visible plain as day without thermal so it literally tricks people into thinking it does more than it actually does. I would be fine if it prevented ECM(and effectively stealth armor) from getting countered by PPC when its activated to make it a LOT better.

Hackusations from potatoes are enough to slot it on ALL ECM mechs.

Not laughed this hard since hackusation of cheating in Scout drops with full Urbie lances and winning....

Good times.

I just know that I wrecked havoc in my Spider with stealth armour during the PTS.

Also to note, it stops you capturing bases until you disable stealth armor, which i found out a little late after a period of confusion.

well the stelath armor is the magic jesus bubble the ecm should never have gotten. thats why the stelath armor is basically a minor wirking upgrade for the ecm since the MWO ecm covers most of the stealth armors features already.

expensive borderline usability upgrade to ecm. Thats what it is in my eyes.
