This.

Sure there's a chance it's not but you can't know just from "gg".

Oh boy, this dead horse again...

My policy is that if I say "gg" it's because I actually mean it and I thought it was a good game.

On the other hand, if it was a 1-sided stomp (and if I feel like commenting) then I don't sarcastically say "gg" and tarnish the meaning of the term; instead I just show my glibness plainly by saying "le gg face" so that there isn't really any ambiguity.

If people just didn't misuse "gg" so much by saying it when it clearly wasn't a good game then this wouldn't be (as much of) an issue; just be more upfront and at least say "gg ez" so that your intentions are clear.

that'd possibly be true if it were really about the people saying it even. But people who spend their life looking to be triggered are going to find a trigger, no matter how hard they have to work to manufacture one. And in between they'll just keep feeding the trolls by overreacting to them.

wouldn't that be "buttbasted", not "buttblasted" (though I suppose if one likes it rough....)

Stop being so literal. It's mean to be equivalent to the post-game handshake, saying "Thanks for playing, good game." The point's not that it was actually a good game (by whatever metric you like), but that you're polite enough to acknowledge that the game couldn't have happened if the other players hadn't participated. If you're reading anything else into it, that's entirely on your own head.

Yeah, there are occasional knobheads who get nasty when they win or lose. People like that in most realms are (shockingly, I know) mocked and derided for their poor attitude.

Jesus wept, I know it's a stupid meme at this point, but the r/autisminaction is real here. This is on the level of being triggered by someone holding a door open for you when they passed through a second before you got to it.

If someone says "GGclose" on a complete stomp, that's being an ***, plain and simple. That can't be interpreted as anything other than nasty sarcasm. These instances DO exist and I hope people here understand that there is SOME truth to instances of "GG" being insulting.

I take "good game" in the context of an acronym "good game", not as just a general floppy signature of respect. Disagreeing with the idea that the game was good is NOT poor sportsmanship or whining. Complaining about people thinking the game is good and sabotaging other people's perspective on the experience IS.

What I hope about this thread is that people are not circle-bashing others who don't conform to consensus that every 'normal' match is "gg", but rather talking about those who despise and take insult to "gg".

We all have responsibility in how we convey our ideas about how a match played out, and each of them is no less valid than another, they are opinions. Opinions only become a problem when they are expressed to directly attack others for their own, as we all know.

GG is a 2 letter cop out.. people punch 2 letters and GTFO as fast as they can... is there any sincerity in that, nope... Its become a token gesture that people cnat even be bothered to spell out.. Worse yet its been adopted by troll culture as Git Gud for bragging and trolling shenanigans...

So really anymore its just 2 letters that someone mashed before mashing ESC.. Its lost any respectful meaning.

If somone types "Good Game" out or other general congratulatory or respectful comments then thats a nice thing.. But gg is lame now and just 1 letter of 26 that anyone can mash.. look i can mash letters too a;lkd;salkdf;lakdjf;alkdsj;ljfasldhgklhj

if you've ever played an IRL team sport, you don't hang around and chat with the winner / loser after the game. you line up shake hands and gtfo.

hell, even judo the bow is cursory to both the dojo/opp/ref.

also irony bolded.

If you think GG (or gg for that matter) is anything other than a handshake gesture at the end of the match your a twit. That goes for both those who take it wrong and the yahoos who are trying to use it as an insult.

People are to damn sensitive these days.....and I am not even that old.

It's as if you never played little league and learned how to be a healthy competitor or had a grandma to teach you how to get along in polite society.

I used to be active on political forums. My signature sign off was "Best Regards". Some found it condescending. So I knocked it off.

You're in a game that runs exactly three minutes. You're on the losing side in a 12-0 match. The four members of a unit that eliminated you and ten of your team mates all type "GG" in quick succession.

You can have whatever reaction you want to this. But their meaning is crystal clear and it's one that's at your expense.

Is their meaning crystal clear? Seems that the very existence of this thread indicates it isn't. Being respectful of your opponents despite the outcome is just good sportsmanship. You assume that team is insulting you because it's what you would do in their position. It tells us all about you and nothing about them beyond the fact that they issued a simple nicety.

For me personally, I do not type out "GG" unless the losing side says it first. Even then, I don't say "GG. I say "Thanks for the match".

If my team stomps the other team, I only say on VOIP good game and nice work to the team. And if the enemy team does say GG, then back to my earlier statement.

I feel it gets the spirit of sportsmanship out far better than a simple "gg" does especially when I am on the winning team of a steamroll.

Funny story. I used to work with a girl at my old part time job and when anything bad happens, she would go "gg".
