Actually, if nobody cheated, no profanity was slewn, and people had fun playing stompy robots, then it was a good game in my opinion.

This is EXACTLY what the OP was talking about - folks who get butthurt over kindness and respect.

If it means anything other than a small gesture of sportsmanship to you, then you are thinking too hard about it.

or spend way too much time hanging around a-holes, and as such, assume everyone else must be one, also. Which seems to be the case for many of those in a state of perpetual triggerment.

Possibly because those are such alien concepts in some corners of gaming culture that they don't have the ability to grasp it and or believe it actually exists.

-1000 points of respect for using the word "triggered."

That word should be flushed down a toilet.

12-2 rolls are more like, "Bleep you, PGI matchmaker, bleep you."

Four minutes of gametime plus 3 - 5 minutes of search are permanently lost to a poor quality waste of time.

I seriously doubt that Bishop Steiner concerns himself about a single person being offended by what he says.

As for the word triggered, it's simply current vernacular. Words retain their power if used sparingly. If you want "triggered" to lose its power, you have to use it profusely, until people tire of it. Wishing it to go away doesn't solve anything.

Maybe if people would grow the hell up and realize they are playing a game, it would be the first step in avoiding being perpetually butthurt?

Just a thought.

Or maybe they could be honest, instead... That holds true for both parties. :)

It actually once was a review of the quality of the match. ("back when I was young ..." *cough*)
Then some people diluted it to some hollow formula of "it's over" (meaning both respect for the victor and domination over the loser)

Today, I'm way past being upset of that dilution.
Today, it means all kinds of things.
Good quality, respect, taunting the loser, sarcasm about a stomp, whatever.

So I would second your point: it means different things for different people. That's what dilution of a term causes.
Originally, it was to express a good quality of the match.

Usually what it means to each person is a reflection of what THEY would mean if they were saying it. Because most people can't seem to grasp that people really are all sorts of different.

12-2 isn't a good game.

Once upon a time, a long time ago, I was a punkass kid that played a lot of StarCraft. I had a nasty habit of saying "gl hf" at the beginning of every game, which seemed innocuous enough. But I never meant good luck to them, what I really meant was "good luck... you'll need it, have fun while I teabag your ***!"

When I ended up winning, I would say "gg" and sometimes even say it well before my opponent lost--I meant it in a disparaging way.

12-2 isn't a good game, it is a bad game, that likely wasn't fun for the other team, either because they sucked(quite likely were full of bad players), or the matchmaker hosed the game. Usually it is a combination of the two because bad players shouldn't be stacked together, as they end up cowering behind rocks and wait to die.

So if you 12-2 another team, the best thing to say is nothing at all. And if you really feel the urge to say something, trash talk the matchmaker, or show empathy by saying "tough break." You get the idea.

p.s. An alternative for "gl hf" might be ESAD. It is an acronym. And it means something. But at least it's honest...

Exactly how I feel about it.

I usually say "gj" (good job) when my team gets blown out, otherwise I say gg. If you want to interpret gg as some feigned insult, IDGAF. Go stew in your own misery.

So nice match is okay, but good game is not? Care to explain the difference since as far as I can tell, in English, the two are functionally the same.

Does it really though??

Imagine onesided match which youve lost, what enemy team can actually say that wouldnt be interpreted as taunting??
common courtesy would be to say nothing...

Lol.... no I don't tend to worry about it too much, not when I likely offend 100s or more with each post, lol. It's the internet. I (generally) don't go out of my way to cause offense, but I also don't spend a lot of energy avoiding it,either. I learned a long time ago, that people on the internet will look for hidden insult if the Dalai Lama or Mother Teresa were to greet them, and as such, why spend too much energy worrying about if you are going to offend the perpetually offended?

We live in a society now that actively looks for reasons to be offended from every small thing, and will take gestures of kindness and charity as an insult if it wasn't done in "just this one specific way".

It's amazing that with all the information and cultures and such at our fingertips now, the world should be getting bigger, but it seems most people are actually getting smaller. Maybe exposure to the big bad world threatens too many preciously help misconceptions? IDK.
