No, it just unlocks the selected camo pattern for that chassis, whether you own it or not. You do NOT get a mech, just the ability to camo one.

Which reminds me... Is anyone else noticing that anything with 6+ Jump Jets is doing more than just stopping Mechs from cooling off? My own ShadowCats are generating so much heat now from merely JumpJetting that they're adding to the Heat Level Meter, instead of just stalling it! What did PGI do in the last patch that they didn't mention?!?!? :o

I have been noticing weird heat issues in general... overheating at ~70%, ridiculously slow cooling... but only sometimes...

What you're looking at (just past the Unlock for a Color) is ONLY A CAMO PATTERN UNLOCK for any Mech of your choice. You would still have to acquire the Mech via other means, as that Pick-A-Prize item WILL NOT give you a free Mech. Posted Image

I would understand the condescending tone if under the color unlock, or anywhere on the pick-a-prize page it had mentioned it was only a chassis pattern and not the chassis too... but it didn't. So thanks for the help. Embrace the new blood... amiright

I see what you mean. Sorry about that. I thought PGI had maintained the text from the previous Pick-A-Prize. :(

In the case of Patterns, you'll first need to select which 'Mech chassis for which you would like to have the pattern Unlocked, and then select your desired Pattern.

could be clearer, i agree, but it does not state that you get a mech

The last event was quite decent, I enjoyed the grab bags probably just as much as all the Pick-Prize reward tiers. One small thing I hope they include in the next grab bag event are a chance to get a Supply Cache from your loot bag (because then you may just get a Mech!).

It's no big deal. It seems we both misunderstood a part of the situation. I thought you were "f'ing with the noob", when it seems you were just taking some info from memory. The end result is its too bad we DONT get a new mech with the skin. I need more mechs Posted Image

I think I might have to respectfully disagree. I have had well over 60-70 caches and keys (all gotten won while playing, mind you, and not paid for with mc) and never once gotten a Mech. I think I got one mech bay, once. The rest has been ac2 and small lasers kind of fare. Anyway....I didn't mind getting a few keys here and there from the lootbag events, but, I would rather just loot bags; at least the bits of MC and cbills add up over time.

I mean come on.... its that old existential question...

I've opened nearly 100 of them, and the best stuff I've ever won was a 3 day premium time and I think 3 mech bays. Other good prizes were stuff I didn't want that I could sell for good money, like engines and modules when those existed.

In my perception, the prizes in the supply caches have been significantly downgraded in value, and are even more suspect than before. At least in the past, there was a supply cache (the one that offered a Centurion) that included several desirable prizes, and seemed to offer higher odds of winning them. (7day premium, centurion, 50mc, mech bay and yard sale warhorn were all in same cache)

These days, the supply caches are full of worthless crap like cheap weapons, decals that you can't even trade, let alone sell (why are we even supposed to want decals on our mechs? Thanks to the limitations of the graphics engine, the only place you can see them well is in the mechlab anyways).

The real slap in the face is some of them even have 'loser' prizes, like "winning" $40k (less than the $50k you can sell the cache for without blowing 25mc on a key). Another even has the gall to offer one supply cache key as a prize. "Win" that one, and you spent 25mc on a key to lose the $50k.

Other games have similar prize caches, and either players don't have to pay anything to open them, (though they can pay to buy them) or you pay to open it, but the caches have a countdown to guarantee a good prize if you keep getting lesser prizes.

Supply caches are not great prizes just like going to a casino is not great entertainment, but the fact is some people *love* that uncertainty, that chance, that against-all-odds-of-scoring-big...

The reason PGI may favor caches over set prizes is that it does allow for randomized distribution of rewards. Think about it. They give us all the chance to earn a mech, cbills, MC, etc and then the "market" is flooded with that particular commodity. The caches don't have that issue, PGI can dump them by the dozens and the likelihood of it have a tremendous impact in the short term is low.

I've pulled modules, decals, premium time, large chunks of MC, lots of c-bills, consumables, and plenty of weapons, equipment and engines. No mechs as of yet, but I have seen others post the screen captures of their mech pulls from caches. On my alt account, i've already pulled two decals so far.

Would be nice if, when you pull a decal you already own, it either spun again, gave you the 50K CBills, or gave you a different random decal.

I got a rifleman out of a supply cache, once. Mostly it's tag, or clan active probe, or other junk.

I've been thinking that you should be able to sell/trade items you no longer want.

Either you sell it and get 10% of the MC price back...

...or another way would be a player can trade an item for supply cache keys at a rate of 1 key for every 250mc worth of price the item has. (So something that costs 750mc, trades for 3 supply cache keys)... Same 10% payback, but they aren't giving players MC they didn't pay real money for. (not that I see a problem with that, all things considered. Every contest floods the game with new free resources anyways, sometimes including large volumes of MC to virtually every player in the game. Yet players keep spending real money on stuff. :) )

I see where you are coming from, but one could also argue that the impact of that is it is too randomized for most players. When people put time into playing during an event they expect to be getting something a little extra, or having something to work towards. I doubt many are interested in putting in a lot of time and only maybe getting a reward. Free supply caches from game to game work that way, however, and that is fine as far as it goes.

I find it odd that people (including PGI) worry about the game economy being flooded with mc or cbills. From the numbers, I know that I could grind all year in every event involving mc and still only be able to MAYBE buy one hero mech (when at 50% off, like in the current sale). Is that really a flood? As for cbills, there are so many cbill sinks now (see new skills and tech) it is utterly laughable. I pity anyone trying to start playing this game in 2017 (imagine starting with Tier 5 skills, no mechs, no mech skills, no sp, and walking out into a match where the matchmaker will have you playing against higher Tier levels with pimped out mechs).

Anyway, I digress...
