A hilariously, unpredictable last ditch maneouver that I often use myself. In case that, those pilots are trying to aim at me in a mech with mostly torso mounted weapons and lousy torso pitch.

I'll admit to doing this (and a bunch of other derpy stuff).

When I do it, what's going through my little puggernaut brain is that image from the BT novels: a Phoenix Hawk pilot, caught in a bad spot, hits the JJ's and flies behind a building or ridgeline to safety, leaving the enemy shaking his fist in frustration.

Fun fact -- sometimes it works. And more commonly, at least the enemy will find some easier target for his next shot, and I get to do a couple more alphas.

No, it's tactical. A lot of mechs can't shoot up so a close quarter JJ will take you out of field of fire for a good couple of seconds. On at least two occasions, I lived just long enough for my team mate to kill my opponent and another time, the opponent overheated himself allowing me to land the final blow.

Sure, 99% of times it's pointless and simply makes you more of a target for other people being so high up but if you are gonna die already, you might as well.

In brawls when mechs come running at you i will try to jump up and let them run under me or close to.

and with the pitch on most mechs being crap they cant shoot me while i jump over there heads to their butts!

It's a good tactic for attacking with a shot-up mech. You run at the target and jump over it while shooting down. It's an easy shot to make and you don't get shot usually.

News at 11: players in danger of dying use tactics to reduce their chances of dying.

Shocking, isn't it?!

Because a disturbing number of players run either with no arm weapons, or with arm lock on all the time, and can't shoot up to save their lives.

Jump up, shoot down, occasionally profit.

...also, it's funny to watch a 'Mech die in midair and faceplant the landing. Why deprive all those spectators of their comedy gold?

Tapping jumpjets throws off the mech hit box so it's actually a very powerful hidden mechanic exploit.

fixed that for you

I play a lot of vertical, jumping on buildings and rooftops like some kind of... crazy gargoyle. More often or not when I get caught out I head up or down which usually leads to a vertical death.

I do from time to time do this. Most of my more frequently piloted mechs dont have jj's, if I lose both of my arms on my Deaths Knell and I'm the last one on my team for example, I'll find the nearest enemy, stand in front of them and look up as far as I can and and pan left to right before I get popped. In my head I'm yelling nooooooooooooooo! But theres no point in wasting time just for the sake of running around at 167 kph, if I wanted to do that I'll just drop into the training grounds and mess with the random mechs that are there rather than waste other peoples time.

o7 Happy hunting ya'll :)

I sometimes do it to give the enemy a final laugh ... other times, i hope they can´t reach me up there.

Desperate fun move sums it up :D
