The first question would be, what's your preferred playstyle? Are you looking for something totally new, or something you have some experience with?

Of the ones that are on sale and you can afford at this time I would say the ones I tend to think are decent or good are:
Commando Death's Knell
Centurion Yen-Lo-Wang
Catapult Jester
Cataphract Ilya Muromets
Jagermech Firebrand
If I had to pick one of these it would be the Ilya Muromets.
Good luck!

Looks like you could put in LFE-265, UAC20 + 5t ammo, 2ML.

Lots of fun with the new tech, swap out the ML's for erML's, you'll get some range without increasing your heat very much.

Haven't tried it with new tech but using the old conventional build still seems to do okay. The YLW would be a close second choice. Still one of my all-time favorites.

All true; however, owning one is the only way you can ever pull out your wang and play with it in a public match without getting into trouble. And despite all of its handicaps, it does pretty well, all things considered. But you can get an AH for CBills, which is (in my opinion, at least) an equally good or better mech.

I ended up buying the Yen-Low myself. I considered the AH, but for me the Yen-Lo allows a more weight-efficient and better placed secondary armament (2E in CT instead of missiles that LT which is supposed to be your shield).

Nope, wrong.
It came out of the desync as the most agile 50t mech in-game by a significant margin. It has an acceleration rate of 45.39 kph/s, turn rate of 72 deg/s, and a torso twist speed of 130.5 deg/s, vs. the 29.26 kph/s, 55 deg/s and 99 deg/s that is common to most IS mediums. With an LFE and downgrading the mediums to smalls you can break 100kph, making it realistically the most mobile 50t mech in-game.
To reiterate- that's 130.5 deg/s twist with one of the best shield arms in the game, with decent structure quirks (16 structure to arms, 16 armor to the gun arm, 6/8 structure to ST/CT.
I don't think it's amazing (wouldn't recommend it over Pakhet or Black Widow), and certainly it wasn't very good pre-desync, but it's a lot of fun to play. Out of all the 50t mechs it's my favorite.

Seeing that you have insight on the Yen-Lo -- mind sharing some thoughts how you'd optimally set the skill tree?
Just bought the thing, and it feels like it might benefit of heavy investment on the left side of the mobility tree. As I understand the play style is all about that torso twist, so some more twist speed and yaw from the tree?

This is mine as it stands.
I think the most essential thing is picking up both the ammo nodes in firepower, since 5t of ammo is only 700 potential dmg out of the AC20. Pick up as much cooldown as you can on the way. Seismic is nice for such a fast mech since it can be used to get behind people more safely.
Dual UAV or dual strike (or 3 points divided between adv. salvos, UAV range, UAV duration) is an efficient use of skillpoints to get a better fix on enemies on the other side of a piece of cover, or suppress enemies as you're pushing to engage them up close. In general these dramatically amplify your ability to influence the outcome of matches- especially for a mech that will often be the the first to contact the enemy in force.
Armor vs. mobility is more a matter of preference, but you don't want to neglect either- at the very least I'd pick up the structure skills, or speed tweak- and then dump the remainder into the opposite. Don't go less than 20 points survival, 21 points mobility.
If I were to do it again, I'd take two points out of radar deprivation and put them into the velocity and cooldown node in firepower. If I wanted to go UAC20 I'd take two points out of enhanced spotting and extra consumable and put them into -jam time (obviously).
So if you're skilling it up from scratch:
consumable>ammo>speed tweak=skeletal density>seismic>more speed or armor.

I have this in my Cataphract, though in this case, it'd be better in the Black Widow because of the hardpoint location, high in the torsos and not at floor level.
