So I was messing around in the academy and noticed that damage does not transfer from arms and legs.
Is this the world we live in now or is it a bug in the academy?

I believe damage only transfers from ammo explosions.

Damage should transfer at 50% from one location to another. Pretty sure it still works correctly in game and in training grounds.

You may be thinking about shooting dead sections in regards to that 50%. So I guess that is sort of damage transfer.

Damage transfer happens if a part of the destroyed section (usually a side torso, but occasionally arm "fragment") is hit... damage is reduced by 60% to the next adjacent part (CT takes reduced damage from side torso, side torso takes reduced damage from destroyed arm fragment). This applies more often to STD engines (for the side torso->CT damage)... but the destroyed arm to side torso does happen with select mechs like the Centurion.
Also, destroyed legs transfer to the appropriate side torso (and not the other leg like MW4).
AFAIK Ammo explosion ignores damage transfer entirely (damage starts from a section and progresses towards the CT going through all the INTERNAL STRUCTURE and IGNORING external armor), and therefore an ammo explosion tends to destroy mechs due to the mass of said explosion damage.

Yes thats how I remember damage transfer working in MWO, but that means they have either removed it or there is a bug with the Heavy Gauss.

I think it was a temporary bug probably related to mechanics only inside the academy because its working fine now as I try recreating it.
