One of my favourite Battletech games of all time was BattleTech: The Crescent Hawk's Inception.
I'm sure this is showing my age when I admit this, but when I played this game on the Amiga 500, I must have sunk months of my childhood into this game.

One of my favourite parts was the Arena in the game. Where you could take one of your Mechs into combat against a random enemy. (You could rent a mech for the combat as well - but you got shafted by the arena holders)

I apologise in advance if the devs have already answered this, but will there be Arena games in Mechwarrior Online? I for one, would love to risk it all in the arena's of the innersphere!

Yeah, Solaris. We'd all love it to have it in the game.

It will probably get in a bit after launch, 2nd bigger update, maybe? :P

If it's done right, Solaris could be great.

1v1 Duels for fun, for c-bills, for mc-bills, for items or for mechs.

1v1 knockout tournaments run by players/Devs/ESL for prizes or fun.

Team Solaris Events.

Perhaps even exclusive Solaris cosmetics.

It requires a lot of planning, refinement and more depth than my broad brushstroke suggestions but it could add a niche to the game for more Hardcore PvP'ers and Tournament players (Ex: E-Sports League ESL), those who wish to play matches or make tournaments specifically against friends and for those whom want a bit more variety than standard MWO may offer.

Just me talking, but I think Solaris would ruin the gaming experience. Instead of the role warfare the game is based on, you'd be back to the biggest and most powerful mechs slugging away at each other. Boring.

Not really, just run it like Solaris, have a light class, a medium class, etc. I personally prefer the medium class myself, but that's the beauty of Solaris, everyone can pick which type of fights they like the best.

Not just mech'class leagues

maybe more like open arena contest like the envisioned in some books. tow persons can "duel" if the rate in Solaris scores are close enough...
And if played properly... a light-medium can beat a heavy in 1vs1 if choosen wisely the mech and/or the arena

it could bring a different aproach to merc units/houses..
If the player in arena need 2 days transit time between fightin in solaris o going to front fields.. the house/merc would have send a player knowing that any given moment, he would be unable to participate on an unexpected (maybe vital) combat.

if solaris scores gives reputation/exclusive visuals/etc to the house/merc unit... maybe those houses would like to pay a "lonewolf" to be based on Solaris and fund its reparis, salaries... just to earn the distinction

(sorry for my horrible english... not my 1st language.. so I hope I have made my point quite clearly)

There is a place for Solaris in the main game. The problem comes with the reward system being implemented correctly. If the prizes include C Bills and a Mechwarrior can earn more in Solaris, then the game could possible deteriorate into an arena style game rapidly. The same as if improved weaponry were given as prizes. An open league table for personal ego, with limited financial rewards and no XP advancement, so that a Mechwarrior can still earn more in his daily employment rather than as a 'sportsman' in the arena. Or even a separate Solaris Credit, that can be spent improving a specific 'arena Mech' only and not on the characters 'fighting Mechs. Thereby maintaining the need to still contest in the 'real' world and not concentrate only on Solaris, unless that is all the player wants to do.

I wouldnt mind seeing the tournament style combat, maybe an 8 man FFA, same class of mech and all of course, but maybe even a few class vs class like a 2 light vs a medium, or 4 light vs assualt, or something random like that, could be really interesting.

If they could do it like it is in the books, that would be cool. The mech pilots did have sponsors and fought for money and fame. If the Devs do implement it in the game, I suggest they take a close look at the novels.

I love the area battles. Just like alot of people said, keep it to each type of weight classes. Also, do team battles of maybe 5v5 like the old school games.

Absolutely!

Arena fighting is part of the lore and I sure wouldn't mind being the Champion of the famous Steiner Colliseum!

Solaris all the way. I would also like to see normal team destruction or any other game type also in an arena setting. Love those closed in, extremely small brawling maps with millions of fanatical screaming fans in the stadium. Gladiator combat anyone? :P

I agree with all my heart as a pilot. Solaris was the best thing to ever happen to me in a Mech game. 1 v 5 free for all slug feast? you lost your arm blowing that guy up? Too bad there's another 3 mother fos with some light damage all looking to rain on your day. But what wil be awesome is Mixed unit battles. Take my light med in to a fight against some of the bigger boys, That would make me happy.
