No one cares about getting Liquid Metal, I am still trying to get Ace of Spades....

I dunno, if they ever add the Kingfisher I expect a handful more people to get it. Still, it's one of the hardest achievements in the game to get. And right now there is almost no reason to run a standard engine. I dunno, maybe if standards came with +10 structure for all 3 torso locations?

That's the thing, since LFE was introduced, a lot of 'Mechs on the battlefield got 'upgraded' since LFE is just plain better than STD unless you plan on using the 11 crit slot weapons... on all other 'Mechs its like another Endo upgrade which takes 4 slots instead of 14..
So if you choose to run a STD you will now have even harder times since the 'Mechs you are now against equip a better engine than yours.

There aren't a whole lot of STD engine builds, sure, but there are more than there used to be due to new tech.
I rather like this STD 285 BJ-1X for example, which wasn't a very good option before ERSL was available, meanwhile I can't find a very good way to make a meaningful improvement to that build with a LFE.
The best I can think of (without changing it too much) is this LFE 280 BJ-1X but I don't think that's much of an improvement because I don't think the MPLs are really worth it (for multiple reasons) and it's not so great dealing with engine damage penalties just to mount those MPLs, and also as a side note the LFE build only has light ferro instead of regular ferro. I suppose you could also just go full MPL vomit with it instead, but then it's slower and has less range and it still deals with engine damage penalties, or you could even go nuts with SPL vomit like this or this, but then that starts to be a completely different build and of course the issues with LFE still apply.
That's my take on the issue anyways.

You could get more speed, more armour, more cooling and more sustained DPS?
Like this?
Not how I'd run the 1X, but it's a few offensive and defensive improvements for no real loss of combat effectiveness, since you can't zombie with a STD anyway.

Here is one. You may not like the build but I do. All I would gain from a LFE is a little speed and lose 1 HS. With engine decouple I don't think its worth it.
GHR-5J

You gain an extra DHS with the Light 280 build.

You could do that, and I wouldn't say that's a bad idea, but I would question how much that's actually worth it when the STD build already runs reasonably cool & fast and stays that way after losing a side torso.
The STD is there to avoid engine damage penalties for losing a side torso, and especially with that build losing both speed and a major amount of heatsinks is a pretty big deal.
I would say that's more of a sidegrade than a definite improvement, which is fine and I wasn't trying to argue that LFE would be definitely worse, but (what I am saying is that) neither would STD in the right build.

i almost had it once but i still had a spare leg and i couldnt get anyone to shoot it out for me.
also i still find stds perferable on many assault mechs, mostly because you often need every slot you can get. those are the mechs that usually end up with max damage. throw in aggressive fighting and you are on excellent footing to receive the cheevo.
the cheevo trees are kind of a joke imho. theres all those assist cheevos which take longer to fill out than mastering every mech in the game. headshots will take even longer. still dont have liquid metal or ace. and if i still cant get ace i doubt il get deathstar. rest are done. they really need to add a bunch of new ones.

True, I think the Pros outweigh the Cons in that build, but like I said that's not how I'd run a BJ-1X anyway

A number of my 'mechs are staying STD, either due to low engine caps, needing 11/12 ST slots or a combination thereof.
If I ever get Liquid Metal, it will likely be in an Atlas, Stalker or Hunchback

I have a few mechs that are staying with STD engines. One of my Warhammers keeps it, one of my Black Knights, My HBK-4P, a couple others.. Sure it isn't going to be a common engine to use anymore, but none of the builds on those mechs are worse off for not using an LFE. They all need every ounce of Crit space.
So i guess if you are chasing that achievement, then play a mech that works well with an STD. They are still out there..
