Now that I think about it, the Jagermechs I'm remembering had RACs. Which would make it a JM7-F, one of the super-weight Jagermechs, not a III.
Though I'm sure the next response is 'Those weren't in the novels either.' My memory is horrid, so it wouldn't surprise me.
No, you remember that one correctly; it's the opening chapter of
Endgame.

"Sergeant Christoffer Pierce moved his seventy-ton
JägerMech Kowloon Avenue [...] The targeting crosshairs burned a deep golden hue, and he pulled into the trigger. Both of his rotary cannon spat out several hundred rounds, the slugs tipped with depleted uranium for 'Mech-stopping power.

The Penetrator is about the most Iconic mech from the Fed Com Civil War Novels due to the fact it was piloted by Archer Christifori which is a character most of the Novels center around. He was also pretty instrumental for Victor's ultimate victory.
Christifori and the Penetrator were already mentioned. But let's not exaggerate. While Christifori was given substantial narration he is largely absent from the spine novels of the FCCW (i.e.
Patriots and Tyrants,
Storms of Fate, and
Endgame). We know he was on New Avalon at the end, but the novel did not mention him anyway. This is why Pardoe later published
The Longest Road, btw.
Christifori is the central character of two supplementary novels,
Measure of a Hero and
Call of Duty. His most noteworthy action is probably teaming up with Adam Steiner to repell the Falcons, which is described in
Operation Audacity.
Yes, he is quite important, therefore he and his Penetrator have been duly noted, but he is far from being the most important character.
(Also, it's not like we would get his Clan-Tech Penetrator anyway)
