So the new tech dropped and out of all the Mechs I own, I was the most excited about updating and trying to salvage the old Hunchback Hero, The GRID IRON. For those who don't know, it has 3 energy, 2 Ballistic and 1 Missile hard point.
I tried 2 Ballistics for Darka, it was OK But I wanted more. I tried LRM support, it didn't work. Tried 1 SRM 3 Medium Pulse and machine guns... It was very underwhelming. Even tried Gauss 3 Lasers, but you had to work so dame hard to make it work and I just wanted a build I could roll my face across the keyboard and drink and relax and do well most games. So I found the build with the new tech... and it works well and I think its FUN.

I call it Mr MRM 40 eat your heart out.

GRID IRON

So what is the build? Its Light Engine 250, so I can loose a side Torso and keep fighting. I have 3 ER Medium Lasers and 2 Light Machine guns. Then not in its Hunch, is the MRM 40. The main Weapon. The only thing missing off this build is probably jump jets, but the old Hunchback just cant use them yet. This build is super fun and Highly effective. This build definitely breathes some life back into this old Mech. I recommend you try this if you like high damage on a mobile Mech.

Quirks all you need are the ammo Quirks, Missile Quirks and Energy Quirks. Its then totally up to you. I went left side on the Armor tree just so I could brawl with this guy a little longer, but it wasn't necessary.

You will be getting people ask, what the Fire Truck are you using? As you ripe them open with like 60 ALPHA, on a coolish build.
Thanks for reading, make sure you spread the word, that Missile Spam is Healthy.

Gauss + 3ERML +LFE is pretty faceroll on a Grid Iron...the Gauss is ready to fire before your lasers are through their cooldown

I have tried the build and as long as you aren't shot at you can do some amazing damage games in it. But still you have to work so hard to make it work, specially when you live with like 200 ping all the time.

Yeah still works well, but never worked for my aggressive play style. Sadly Posted Image

3 tons of LMG ammo for 2 LMGs? So have you ever run out of ammo?

That's two tons of MRM ammo and one ton of LMG ammo.

Incidentally, downgrading to a MRM30 gets you just enough jiggle room to fit light ferro and a LFE 275, which gets you moving a mite faster.

Best thing of the grid iron are the gauss quirks. Not as good as they used to be, but still enough to be best gauss 50 t mech. After release of the new tech i tried it with a heavy gauss and i can tell you: it works and it is fun on brawl maps.

I did mine as Heavy Guass with 3 ER Meds. Works pretty well. Even had a match a week or two ago where I had a bout of extreme good luck and managed to put a HGauss slug through the cockpit of a Locust. Sheer dumb luck, but awesome nonetheless.

Twin Light Gauss with a 225LFE and single sinks (because endo and ferro) works. You have to strip a LOT of armor to make it all fit, and even then only 4 tons of ammo. But it's a lot of fun, if a bit gimmicky. Not even close to top tier worthy. Those goose waffles have a really high RoF.

Almost same build as mine except I only put 4 tons on ammo (25 + 8) and backup ERML. Heatsink can be either single or double.

How much dmg can you put out w/ heavy gauss on average? I'm still not entirely convinced on it. :/

I like it with LFE-250, UAC/20, ML in head, SRM launcher on the other shoulder. I leave the arms empty.

That applies to every build.

Did they ditch the chargeup on LGR's, or is it still charge and release?

Having to treat your guns like shooting a bow that you can't hold pulled for more than a moment drives me nuts.

It's no meta build, but you have 25 pinpoint dmg every 3,2 seconds at 207m for 2 heat on a high mount and low profile. Use it wisely. I even used two of these things during the last CW event on hot maps like terra therma and did well. The hunch has good protection due to quirks and you can use the other side for shielding. But apart from all that it is FUN! With all the (annoying) shaking it really feels like you are firing a BFG.

And don't use it at gauss range. The damage drop is significant beyond 300m, but can be used to finish a fleeing target off.

Gotta say this, I love this mech but with one missile slot, it's quite a hard bank for a lrm setup. As you said you have a high ping so any lrm builds are actually going to be favourable.

I've always run gauss med lasers but I havent tried ER med's yet. Instead I rocked up with the H-Gauss and 3 er smalls. Goddamn I made bigger mechs than me run. It's not a great build at all but it's so much fun, I averaged around 3-400 damage but up to about 2-4 kills . IMO With gauss it's not the damage that counts, it's providing great quality hits so long as you have data on where to hit, components fly and mechs will fall.

Someone once suggested to me a UAC20 build with ER meds and it's a more realistic approach. No gauss boom boom bye bye and instead you get a possible 40 damage + the meds in a short space of time. If you get hot either walk it off or coolshot it. This yields similar kills or more than the H-gauss and double the damage in my experience. Something if you can't take advantage of, your team certainly will.
