Hello everyone,

With the talk of leaderboards in the town hall meetings and in online chats, I am curious if anyone cares about having a leaderboard for Joystick or VR pilots in the game?

We all know that a joystick in comparison to a mouse and keyboard won't really hold up in a fight, so why not create a leaderboard for them? (...maybe even a community driven league? possibly for MechPits??)

As the title states, I am also curious what the community thinks about a VR leaderboard.

Clearly the VR element of the game needs to have an option to aim with a VR headset, regardless I still think there should be a leaderboard that acknowledges pilots who use these devices.

On a completely separate note, how does the community feel about giving pilots with Joysticks or VR enabled PCs the option to drop in a Quick Play match with ONLY other pilots who have the same options enabled? Maybe just let them drop on an open and flat test map with no terrain?

Thanks for your time everyone.

Does the computer used even know or record what device is used during game use? And if so, how easy is it to spoof? Not sure this is worth messing with by an outfit that can't crank out a new map.

Good point. I guess there would need to be a key authenticator (like WoW used to have) paired with registered hardware (Anyone remember the Artemis? ..just an example btw) that is paired with our accounts that in turn allows us to access the Joystick / vr servers. If we don't have the authenticator paired with all of our purchased and registered hardware (pgi affiliated hardware or not) alongside our account then we can't connect to these special servers. Just a thought...

There are people who play joystick.
I've played joystick for 64,000 registered MWO matches.

64,000 joystick matches.

Joystick is perfectly functional.
You need to get clear on how joystick should actually be used. You don't replace the mouse with the joystick. That's ridiculous.
And I do consider myself a good player, though if you don't want to take it from me, just ask Mr. Accused here.

Conclusion:
On that note, I concur we should have a Joystick Leaderboard. It would totally be fair to joystick players.

Does the joystick have to be used for aiming to count? I use one for a lot of mech functions but not aiming.

Every time someone brings up steering wheels, I have to point out that I actually played MW3 with a steering wheel and pedals years ago. It was hilarious.

I voted no on the separate joystick leaderboards and undecided on VR (do not own).

As a joystick player I just see no need for PGI to waste resources making that, or that I should have some special board just for me because I use a joystick. There are countless other things I can think of that are a much higher priority.

Maybe there are advantages to mouse over joystick, personally I am worse with a mouse. Haven't been around too long, but season after season I am constantly improving my stats across the board using a joystick and more often than not hold my own and then some doing so.

All previous MW titles I played were with a stick, just can't bring myself to use a mouse, not with this game at least. After all we aren't scrolling around a mouse as our mechs are powering up :).

1. Sure
2. Sure.
3. big NO. The community is small enough as it is. Adding an exclusive drop for a small subset of members further subdivides us unnecessarily.

joysticks are for mechwarrior 5. unless pgi botches the input code, like using xinput only and pissing off all the hotas owners.

There are ways to make the VR headset aim track, not hard works the same way as eye tracking, lot of the core functionality is usable for VR as long as you know how to set it up properly unboxing plugging it in and just grabbing some generic VR driver gives you a half arsed experience, I play exclusively in VR just for the snowballs and giggles of it since I make one annoying light pilot.

Completely possible I've never used one but have heard of them, not entirely sure if they can hook into SteamVR, or VorpX. Though newer headsets have head tracking built in out of the box, though VorpX is very barebones and hardly works anymore. Takes a bit of know how to spoof SteamVR into thinking MWO is a VR title, but works flawlessly when done correctly.

well i got an old backup of freetrack, the one that supports trackir (they got a c&d to remove it), and i know my way around the freetrack api. but it would be nice if it had native support so i dont have to go through 2 or 3 wrappers and some shoddy c code i wrote to up the latency through the roof.

vr proper would be nice but i think mechwarrior is more of a simpit game and vr goggles will get in the way of that. trackir works better in that situation. short of an ar system that combines real and virtual elements. i dont think the technology is there yet though. there is this though.
