This thread is about all of the least represented weight classes in game. THIS LIST ONLY COVERS IS MECHS, if someone wants to make a similar list for the Clans I'd be happy to include it in the OP but as you can see I've gone thru quite a few mechs as is.

Please no whining about maps or modes, mechs do not affect those. Just stay on topic please.

Mongoose and Firemoth would be fun, we need some light mech choice in the 20 and 25 ton range.

Another 60 ton Clan would be great, we have only the Mad dog. Maybe the Hellfire, not a lot of choice there...

I think it would be by far the best addition to the IS lights: the Brigand has high performance and many variants, it fills a gap, and its lore explores fresh new territory (Periphery&Pirates) while staying true to the FCCW-theme.

An older text...
...the Brigand (25 tons, IS)

Posted Image
  • it's 25 tons and we do not have many of those
  • it's jump capable, unlike the other 25t Mech (the Commando)
  • it's mostly an energy boat, again unlike the Commando
  • it has good variants (including a missile boat; if PGI is somewhat liberal, they may replace the Angel ECM on one variants with a Guardian)
  • hitboxes look solid
  • its lore is just cool: it's a Pirate Mech!
It's really a perfect fit for MWO as far as gameplay is concerned. Effectively it is a Commando with JJ and more energy HP, which is pretty much what I want from a 25t Mech. But at the same time it does not totally obsolete the Commando, as its max engine rating is 210 and some Commandos can go faster.

It's hardpoints are not very high, but that's really not a big deal for a light Mech with this kind of mobility; it's not like you'd poke with a lumbering 75t Mech. They way light Mechs are played this disadvantage is neglectable. And other than that, I can't see any disadvantage. Even the distribution of the HP is good, spread over the STs and the arms. The -X1 actually has most of its firepower in the torso.

I personally like the pirate origins of the Mech a lot. In MWO with its Clan vs IS bias it is often overshadowed that the Periphery and the Pirates are an important part of this world. Also, Clanners hate Pirates and it would be a nice in-universe provocation.

Furthermore PGI' art department could really shine creating skins for the special-variant and the hero using the powerful and inspiring pirate-theme.

It's fast enough; 1.3x multiplier means 285 engine, i.e. 115 kph plus speed tweak. Not super fast, but that's what we have the Assassin for. This Mech has a wealth of hardpoints: 4x energy and 4x ballistic. The only real drawback is the fact all hardpoints are in the arms.
It's also very appropriate for the FCCW-era.

As much as I think Templar is cool to ride in, fixed IS XL engine on such a barndoor profile is eh... I'D LOVE to see the Longbow in game though. 85 ton is perfect for missile boats.

Sagittaire will become THE meta IS Assault, no doubt.

How long before Juodas comes in and reminds us that technically, Quads are the least represented mech in this game?

The lighter weights are the ones I care about the most (45 tons and below). To me those are horribly underrepresented in the game as a whole. I do like a number of the mechs on your list, but these would be my MWO top picks for each tonnage bracket:

**20 TONS**

-Wasp: Just too iconic to pass up and provides a nice agile little jumper in the 20 ton bracket with a wide variety of variants. You can cover everything from MG boats to ECM to laser vomit to missile carriers with the variants and they're also so differing in hardpoint locations to give even more variety. I also don't think it needs to be combined with the Stinger, as the Stinger is certainly unique enough to stand on its own and has plenty of its own variety in variants.

**25 TONS**

-Mongoose: I think this thing would be incredible in MWO and a superb mech for the 25 ton bracket. It also has great hardpoint variety in its variants. Besides, the Aesthetics are really something we lack in MWO with the overall design and especially the digitigrade legs.

**40 TONS**

-Clint: This thing feels like it would be quite the workhorse in MWO. I'd love to see it, but I'd also really love to see the 2-3UL with its Plasma Rifle, so as much as I'd love to see the chassis, some of the variants really do need more future tech to work out. Regardless, the variants can always be "built" when the tech hits, and there's still 5 viable variants even without the other tech, so the sooner the better.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

As a note on the Fireball: PGI stated hit-reg is at a point where speed doesn't matter, they're just too chicken to go through with it (as per last updates about a year+ ago . . . look through my post history to see the whole timeline). They've also said full blown city maps were too difficult to do and could break the game/engine . . . Russ admitted they were too chicken to do it . . . and yet they're finally doing one of those, so who knows.

As a note on the Sling: While you note the Duan Gung, I much prefer it's spiritual predecessor. I just like the aesthetics and design so much more, as well as the fact that it has solid variants (well, for the variants that exist). I'd rather have this design and use the Duan Gung to create variants for the Sling. However, I will say that I at least like the potential hardpoints of the Duan Gung.

I've been pushing for the Hornet for some time:
Avoids the 'unseen' issues
Enough variants
Not a chicken walker
Slower than a Locust
Jump jets (jet pack)
Basically a fast, tiny Urbanmech

Yeah.

Raptor would be an a good to excellent pokey Light.

Sha Yu, if I'm being honest, probably won't be better than the Cicada, but it does look awesome.

Longbow is for missile spam lulz, and also looks awesome.

Sagittaire would easily become the best IS Assault for poking; only a BNC-5S could potentially match it.

Man, I really love the visual design for the Brigand bit it looks like it would be really slow for a light mech. Stats on Sarna have it specced slower than a Mist Lynx with about the same firepower. The Raptor looks fun too, since it's basically just a box with feet. It's like a mini Cicada.

It's not an OmniMech, you can change the engine. Engine cap would probably be 210 (1.4x multiplier for lights) which means 136kph plus speed tweak (147kph). Not a Locust, but not slow either. Considering it has JJ, I would not complain about its mobility. With its size it will be hard to hit, and you have good tonnage to use for your weaponry.

Ah, thats true. I forgot that IS mechs can just go balls to the wall with their engines when it doesn't necessarily make sense in fluff. In that case I guess my vote is for the Brigand, JJ lights are always a blast.

Did you realize that the "Sha Yu" is like most of the "Xin Sheng" Mechs very good. Although I remember the Sha Yu got a very bad rating in the TRO. One of the things were text doesn't fit the rules again.

and because timeline in MWO is somewhat senseless i say we should not limit "Wanna Buy a Mechpack" by something meaningless.

20ton -> Gun (omni) (single heavy energy weapon -> not good but tha quirks)
25ton -> Gunsmith
40ton -> Scarecrow (somebody wanted MG spam?)
85ton -> Seraph (omni) or Templar III
95ton -> Tenshi (omni) (a real IS Omni)

I would want the Tarantula most but not gonna happen in foreseeable future I guess. If a quad mech were to be added then this one could be relatively easy to make as it has a turning torso right in the center of the legs.

Raptor seems really nice, it's my second favorite of these. Being an IS omni it would bring something new to the game and it looks like Cicada and Blackjack had a baby.

Templar looks good and it would be an IS omni.

Ah, thats true. I forgot that IS mechs can just go balls to the wall with their engines when it doesn't necessarily make sense in fluff. In that case I guess my vote is for the Brigand, JJ lights are always a blast.

This is the reason I specified which mechs are omnis in the list.
