Is it possible to get a smooth gaming experience with max settings on MWO? Im running a very decent gaming rig with a 970 GTX with liquid cooling and I still get the odd stutter and the FPS just isnt that high when turning.

Its actually kinda appalling how badly this game is optimised, any tips to get say 60fps consistently without turning down all the settings?

Nope. Old Cryengine with tons of modifications. MWO is CPU bound on most systems than not.

Dont ask why PGI moved Hardware-Accessories to an archive folder several months ago but you will get more help in that subforum.

There are a lot of settings you can turn down (or just off completely) that make little visual difference.

If you do a google search you should be able to find in depth guides on mwo graphics settings.

Quick and easy guide: keep detail and texturing high, everything else is either low or medium.

Turning off dmg glow, cockpit glass and monitors will also help squeeze a couple more frames from your system.

Honestly, most of MWO's performance issues -- the loading hitches and framedrops -- are artifacts of Cryengine, and there aren't really any settings to address them.

Quite a while ago someone created a video showing how all of the graphics settings changed both performance and the look. I wish I knew where it was, but I can tell you that for some of the settings there was literally no difference on the look between low/medium and high, but there was an impact on the fps. I'd personally recommend turning down one setting at a time, do a drop and see how it works for you. If it makes the game less pretty, change it back and try the next one. Anecdotally, most of my settings are at medium and I get between 80 and 144 fps. (Running on a 144 fps monitor.) And that's with a GTX760 and an i7 4770k O/Ced to 4.2 ghz.

I'm pretty sure Kanajashi did the settings video on youtube. For me I like to use the 1st hardware accelerated anti-aliasing setting. The one setting you don't really need is the shadows, you can set then to low or medium and get a noticible FPS boost without really effecting the game that much.

I just upgraded my PC, i7 6700 4.2Ghz, DDR4 3600 memory, and GTX 1060 and I still get frame stutters on Tourmaline. I don't have the settings maxed out but I still only get like 60-90 FPS. So even with a pretty decent brand new PC your not going to get amazing FPS like you would with any other shooter.

I do not think problems as in "this affecting my ingame pilot performance" it is just that you even with HDD, a i5-6500, 8GB Radeon RX480, and 16GB main you got realy embarrasing framedrops from >140 down to below 60 when you do certain things or when certain mechs or animations occur in your field of view.
