Returning mwo vet here, I came back to a host of new guns, mechs and game modes that I'm still sorting through and relearning in addition to the basic fundamentals which I've let go by the way side in my absence lol.

So I've been eyeballing smurfy, and the annihilator specifically. How good are it's hit boxes? The thought of 4 rotary AC5s is kind of giggly after my still limited testing of two of them on my muromets.

Yay when you pilot one. Nay when you run into one.

There is substantial ghost heat on four RACs FYI.

They are very tough, and I've yet to successfully headshot one though you'd think it'd be easy with the way the cockpit is positioned.

I've HIT the cockpit, repeatedly, BUT never yet got it crit'd all the way through.

Very annoying...

Yeah, do it for the 6 x AC5s. That build is a beast. Rapid fire 30 PPFLD.

I'd say overall a yay, but a nay for newer players.

If you've played the Dire Wolf, the Annihilator is pretty much the same from what I've seen, only that it gets more armor and has quite a different geometry, more humanoid (arms, straighter legs, chest), like Godzilla essentially, as so many of us come to think of it.

It's definitely a mean SOB, never should take it on alone, from the many times I've fought it. However, if two lights get on it, it's dead, easily. Smarter players will stay in the middle of the group, less smart will be in the back. If you're getting one, keep that in mind when you're playing with it, absolutely with any other slower mechs too; stay in the middle of your group.

Other than that, it's got the armor, and it's got the tonnage. Recommend loading up some LBXAC/20s and have some fun brawling.

+1

A true 100 tonner, slow but with very good armor quirks. It's really difficult to shot it down and can equip a huge amount of firepower.

I have never piloted one, but…

Being on the receiving end is not fun at all :)

One of the few IS mechs with the fire power to match Clan heavy weights.

got mine 4 days ago. Got the first three and currently running the A1 version. The most dumb thing I seen was the engine rating. 32 KPH....really? I bumped it up to 48.6 KPH, same speed as my Dire Wolfs at the cost of 3 to 5 million C-bills which I think it stupid to pay for that. Should be the same engine rating as the DW mechs to begin with.

Once you get past that, you can pretty much configure what you like. I currently am using 2XRAC5'S, 2XLarge ER Lasers with the rest setup for double heat sinks, Mk2 console. As for the skill, I am putting an emphases on Heat mitigation and some range as well as RAC munition increase.
It's got good armor to begin with, so spend your earnings on weapons and sensors. You could do some performance upgrades for the torso and speed.

Good luck!

The Girafforator is too damn slow for most Quickplay maps. Also, 100 tonners have such a slow turn speed, since the engine desync and catastrophic mobility nerfs to 100 tonners, that most Anni pilots die rather quickly once a light gets behind them.

The only things its good at are Defense maps in FP and organized group matches wherein your team mates won't run off and leave you in the dust.

It's far too situational to be a very valuable addition to your mech repertoire.

-

If you really want an IS assault mech, go Battlemaster or Cyclops for Cbills.. or NightStar if you have cash. (It'll be out very soon. If you want it, get the Reinforcements pack as it has the best variant.)

The numbers don't do it much justice. Let's just say that with override engaged your suicide is ludicrously fast. Just don't run more than 2 RACs on anything. And if one of them jams on you, let up on the weapon group for half a second, otherwise the game will read the locked one coming back online and firing again as a third RAC and you'll cook worse than Anakin on Mustafar.

They are fun if you can deal with the speed. The fire power and durability is beast mode.

I don't own an Anni but I do own an Atlas and Anni is like an Atlas on steroids.

Anni is more of a siege breaker, meant to break defensive lines.

And like an Atlas if you start pushing then you have to go all in 100%, there is no hill poking, no corner poking and no running back into cover.

If you can handle an Atlas then you might like the Anni.

Anni pros:

Walking gunboat, can carry more firepower than any current IS mech.

Durability for days that will make an Atlas blush, Anni has no equal in terms of toughness.

Anni cons:

Very huge and very slow, slowest IS assault mech currently and tallest IS mech currently, soo tall in fact that the mech lab had to be adjusted for it to fit.

It's biggest weakness is light mechs, they can hug it's legs without a care in the world, so don't let lights anywhere near you.

As a purchaser of 30 Annihilators (owner of 11) I say yes, over and over.

Really though this depends on your play style. If you like waddling forward, not stopping and crushing anything that looks at you funny then the Annihilator you will love.

I warn you though, if you commit then don't look back.

Going to go all in here and say the Annihilator is actually a bit on the OP side though because it is IS and not Clan, no one will admit it because we all know an IS mech absolutely can't be OP. Don't get me wrong its got is weaknesses, the same exact weaknesses that got disregarded when brought up about the Direwolf except unlike the Direwolf it has a decent range of motion to its Torso twist, more armor quirks than god and overall a tanky geometry that allows it to spread damage like a boss.

Its one real flaw is its speed which means it will at times be left alone at the tail of the NASCAR snake to be chewed off by enemy lights at the front of the NASCAR on the other side. With any type of support though, it is near unstoppable. It is actually the only mech in the game I am afraid of to be honest because you just can't beat it one-on-one in anything other than a fast light or maybe a fast medium and then only if you can flank it and take it by surprise.

Seriously, I challenge anyone to take any other Assault or Heavy mech in the game, any of them even the mighty KDK-3 and stand toe-to-toe with a well built and decently piloted Annihilator and come out on top without something like a lucky heat shot. Sorry, it just isn't happening, the Annihilator will win 9 times out of 10 or more.

On that note though. It is a definite Yay for the Annihilator though I am holding off for the C-bill release simply because I am expecting them to nerf the Annihilator at some point, maybe even the balancing pass coming up here in September. Hopefully it doesn't get hit too hard.
