Went on our TS today and a friend said he made 20th place on Shard leaderboard and I was 1st.
Then I thought... "Wait.. what did he just say? I am 1st? WTF?"
I checked and found it to be true:

I just played a few games folks.. had a few good runs but never expected something like that TBH.
Did nobody play the Shard or what? Is 8MG in a ACH not sexy?
Where are all the good players? Did not even find EMP guys in the Shard leaderboard except bearclaw.

From all the Clan heros I found the Shard the only mech to be buy-worthy (esp. for 10 bucks only).

The MG builds are gimmicky and with the cSPL in its current state the cheetah offers very little. Most of the meta-oriented players probably passed it up because they're content with their commandos, wolfhounds, javelins, and assassins, and as near as I can tell, there has been a lot of "no more money from me PGI!!!" pledges thrown around so that probably contributes as well.

Congrats!

I've noticed that most the people playing are mistaking playing intentionally and well with playing overly cautious. Result is that there's oceans of auxk pit there right now, especially in euro primetime.

How do you check individual mech leaderboards?

I think you have to search for them in the news.
Or use google with terms like "mwo leaderboard <MECHNAME>"

I'm still trying to rectify how a terribad player such as myself ended up 6th on the EBJ-D Leaderboard.

Congrats on the win.

I considered buying a Shard and competing... I've actually been running a 3 HML+4LMG ACH for most of the last two weeks.

However, I believe PGI will nerf MGs in a month or so, so it's probably not a sound investment.

I mean, I'm first on the Ebon Dragoon leaderboard. I expected for sure that somebody would make me work for that place, but apparently the competition was in the MLX-G instead.

Yes, thats the current leaderboard. If you want to look ofr older ones you need to search for it as they are not easily accessible.

There is nothing to brag about since it just happened, I didnt not really try to achieve it and obviously the competition was missing.

Grats on 1st. I noticed the same thing with the Civil War leaderboards compared to previous ones. I think people are just getting pissed with having to buy mech pack after mech pack. In the case of heroes it's worse because you can't use them in comp so less comp players are buying them.

the purifier was worth buying imho, just for those high laser mounts, but yeah an 8MG shard is nice.

Congrats.

I bought one but haven't managed a drop in the past couple of weeks... motivation to play very low right now.

MG's make ammo explode, ammo exploding (or ST's shot off) net you huge amounts fo damage (mostly overkill) but this very nicely helps towards the score formula for these kind of leaderboard events. Thats why playing for ranks in the leaderboards requires a different playstyle than the usual one in some mechs.

And then it's a light mech so probably not many bought and played it. So that may lakc a lot of higher skilled competition as well making "beeing high in the ranking" even more easy.

cautious is just not good for the leaderboards because to rank high you need high activity the entire time with lots of damage and kills (KMDD's) cautious means wastign time you cna do this. A lot people never understood this.

Well there are a couple things to consider.

1. unless you specifically wanted or need the pods unique to the Hero, most people weren't going to buy the mech. This is especially the case since PGI released a C-bill version of each mech which allows many people to upgrade their existing mechs via C-bills. For example I am now the proud owner of a 6 x LMG, 2 x ER ML Arctic Cheetah and it only cost me a few C-bills. Spending $10 to get two more LMGs wants on my radar. This means that the Clan II heroes probably didn't sell that many which also means there wasn't alot of competition on most of the leaderboards.

2. These leaderboard events really don't require skill. Sure it helps but what tends to help more is being able to play more matches. Even a bad player is going to fall into a great game once in a while and since the competition only counts your 10 best games, all you have to do is play enough to have 10 great games and poof your at the top of the leaderboard. For example I was kind of struggling with the Ice Ferret P for most of the weekend. I just kept getting placed on the worst Potato teams over and over and went into the last day of the competition with like a 1300 score. I think I was like 28th or 29th place. With just an hour left I had 3 back-to-back great games were I scored over 250 points each. I immediately skyrocketed up to 1794 points and finish the competition in 13th place. So yeah, all skill means is that you might be able to top the leaderboard in 10-15 matches where as it takes the next guy 30-40 matches to get the same score. If they REALLY wanted to make it a skill based challenge, then they should take the average of all the matches played, not just the 10 best matches played.

Just some perspective, someone made a leaderboard in the same event with a score of 10.

Congrats OP.

Wait there was a leaderboard for the new cbill variants too???

*checks boards*

LOL, 5th place in ACH-E. So seeing how I only have 16 matches played (some might not even be during the event), and was only 66 points from 2nd, I'm going to say that yeah.... nobody was playing.

Probably the same thing as last event. Prizes while a bit better (at least for top 25) weren't super great. Tons of different boards. And only some people have the mechs.
A lot of the mechs were in the low hundreds in match score for 75th place, and the Executioners only had 55 and 57 people on the boards.
