Now that we have the ability to turn off cockpit monitors on and off in the options menu, could we get the old cockpit monitors back? The ones that showed ammunition stored in parts of the mech and how many heatsinks we had. Like the picture shown here

Edit. Please stay on track, I want the developers to see this thread, if you guys know people who want this back tell them! It brings great immersion into the game! Spread the word!

I implore you, please spread word of this. This is a great immersion feature. Im sure many of you would agree. If enough people want a feature added, PGI will surely listen, RIGHT?!

I will also occasionally bump this topic from time to time.

As long as PGI makes them accurate in tracking the amount, then sure.

What I really want is the option to remove all these cockpit side monitors that I seriously have no use for.

I would love to see the monitors be used for more than decoration. I, for one, would love an option where you can make the monitors your information as opposed to have a hud glued to your face at all times. As someone who runs at 100 FOV, so I can see everything, it would be nice.

ahhh yes when there was still hope, the artemis controller and before PGI bent over for shareholders who were afraid of the word "simulator".

The cockpit monitor graphics are stored as easily accessible .dds animation frames. I don't know about UI functionality, I wouldn't touch that, but they can at least be texture modded to something that looks less nonsensical. Posted Image

i'd love to get rid of the GUI, and just use the cockpit monitors for all the info.. would be far more immersive. :)

I think that they should run ads for Coca-Cola and Trojan and stuff like that.

Might provide an income source that doesn't involve bleeding the population all the time.

Don't want the ads? Guess what you can do? Pay to remove them!

(Sorry...thinking PGI like)

Your missing the point.. IF i did that i would not have the info..

If they dumped the GUI, and instead made it work in the cockpit monitors, i would still have all the info, and add immersion.

Yes. It's a nice feature for screenshots or the like, though. Thought I'd share it as it's not the most obvious feature in the game.

The more you spread this to people, the more we can convince them to put this back, we may not get IK ( I WANT TO BELIEVE), but we can probably get this put back in!

While they are at it they could tie the cockpit to the mech instead of having your head (The anchor for your crosshairs) be in a floating box in a third dimension where your mech cockpit sits. :P

i figure they got rid of them because they never worked correctly to begin with. this kind of thing requires a lot of low level calls that the creators of cryengine never bothered to implement. you are essentially rendering the screen but instead of going out to the monitor it becomes a texture, and that texture is used somewhere in the game in a subsequent frame. also if you update them at the same rate as the main screen you get a performance hit. its not as bad as rendering the screen twice since you usually only do a low resolution render (like 512^2), but its still a hit.

the catch is not to do that. set the update to a time stamp so that you only get a refresh every few frames. you can do camera views thusly if you dont mind that they are a slide show. so if it takes your performance down to 60%, you can split the difference by only rendering every other frame for 80%, or every 4th frame to get 90% of your performance. that also gives you 15fps on your cockpit monitors if you get 60 (and it would only cost 4fps). for a hud screen now you could probibly make do with 5-10 fps on cockpit displays and it wouldn't take the same setup cost as doing a camera render. mostly since you are dealing with a lot of 2d graphics and arent doing expensive things like rendering shadows.

Well, now that we have the option to turn it off. People who cant deal with it can simply turn it off. Can't handle the FPS Drop? Turn it off!

Unless they sit with us and tell us EXACTLY which new content they are paying with the adds... i want none. I had adds about intel in bf2142, i didnt mind or even noticed them but we got nothing in exchange, we paid full price for the game and xpac. Burnout Paradise had Doritos adds, i thought they were funny, the game cost next to nothing and was hella fun. I wish Elite Dangerous had some adds at the station entrance, im pretty sure they would know what to do with the cash. I know i thought adds in mwo was a good idea years ago but i pretty much changed my mind. But i feel like pgi does things for cash and not things with cash.

The Monitors were remnants of past ambitious plans and FPS hogs also so for the sake of low end poorformance they were removed and the new coders dont know to use them anyway bcs it seems documentation is clumsy so they have to reengenner thei own product time and time again which probably made the decision to go UE for MW5 even smarter.

these things we have now are just animated textures. a drop in tech level from '99 to '93 (quake 3 was the first game to have this feature as far as i know, and i was running a damn voodoo card back then, surely my mini supercomputer on a card could handle it). we dont even get '99 tech in 2017 lol.

of course if this was done right a toggle would be needed for those potato rigs. its one of those expensive things that if you can use it yay, if you cant turn it off. it would also likely restrain it to redundant information from the hud anyway since if you showed something that only about the top 3rd of the population can see, like a rear view monitor, thats kind of an unfair advantage. fps throttling also helps, if you can cap display updates to a single fps then it should hardly be noticeable even on a potato rig. it can be all rolled into a single fps cap slider 0=nothing, max=somewhere around your typical frame rate.
