I absolutely agree! But it is rarely something you do want to do, when playing as a unit, which is why I was asking. I'll probably also need to look into a gen-rushing deck for IS as well, for example. Is there an IS equivalent of a Linebacker rush, or similar?

Hey, if people want to pipe up on teams chat or comms to complain about how anyone plays in a PUG faction drop, they're more than welcome! Would be a refreshing change from them complaining about arty strikes...or LRMS... or facing an [EVIL] pre-made...

We're veering off-topic here though - this thread is all about getting some discussion going on IS drop decks and the mechs therein, not so much about the way those mechs are played once assembled!

Roughnecks or Bushies or Griffins is the linebacker equivalent.

Honestly you're probably best off going 4 heavies or 3 heavies and a medium. That's the best usage of the tonnage advantage.

3x Orion VA, 1 assassin or cicada. Longe range poking is boring. Just ac20, SRM brawl every map. Its more fun.

cc, because you didn't say an Atlas I think you are trolling this guy

Jesus, I miss my atlas'. All 15 of them. But that torso twist now is just crippling.

Battlemasters (2c nerf Posted Image ), Warhammers, Thunderbolts, Roughnecks (im surprised they work...)
Hunchies, Griffins, Blackjacks, Shadowhawks
for lights..well faction play isnt anymore about siege...(long long time ago)
but as always Locust and Trollmandos for me

I would take two Battlemasters on the top end and fill the bottom with a Locust, Commando-1B, Javelin, Urbanmech or Assassin.

I recommend an ER deck and large pulse deck for those Battlemasters.

I prefer T-bolts for my heavy either a Top Dog sniper or general purpose large pulse 9SE. If you know its going to be really close quarters brawling like on Emerald Taiga consider a Splatpult, Cataphract, Orion or Archer-5W.

Mandatory mechs for FW.

Crab, Bushwacker, griffin, marauder, Battlemaster, and the Mauler.

I.e. mostly tanky mechs and/or with high mounted weapons.

Avoid blacknights, Atlases and Awsomes.

It started as a joke, but I've been doing pretty well with a 160t dropdeck. 4 ASN-21 with 4 SRM4 each. Go go, Power Assassins!

I make two Awesomes, every morning, in my toilet, before breakfast.

The Awesome is so bad that Zitos Mom wont go with one unless shes on top because, as she put it, someones got to be in charge and it's never the Awesome.

BKs are great for padding your stats, that's true - if you're a clanner. Because even a scrub in trials can kill a BK. Only real issue I have with them is that I rarely get the kill, just KMDD because they usually die from overheat on their 3rd shot.

Let me know when we've hit "shots fired".

The 4xsrm4 Assassin is serious business. While it's not a huge damage threat immediately it's tough to put down, nimble and heat-sustainable. People often make the mistake of ignoring them in favor of bigger targets - right until you get 32pts of SRMs in the back and have to decide if you're going to let him do it again or if you're going to turn and shoot him and have his teammates back-shoot you.

I would agree that the Assassin is one of the most underrated IS mechs right now, I consistently watch them make trouble way outside their weight class.

Take any 80T or lower mech in the game and 1v1 me in it, ill bring my awesome, i bet you will lose. and if you actually know how to torso twist, the black knight is a monster and a half, and just because you have 8-9 laser hard points, you dont have to fill them all.

Awesome 8t-4 heavy ppc's, Awesome 8R 4 lrm15's, Pretty baby, 3 MPL 3 SRM6. All 100% viable builds i pull 1.5k+ in

I tease. Though the BK is still a poor man's GHR. In the immortal words of Ray Venkman, "Aim for the flat-top!"

I'll play you in heavies vs the BK. I'd take a 65 tonner vs that Awesome but I've got a couple of friends who wreck face in them. In the 70-80 ton range it's a solid performer if you know how to play a squishy mech.

Good to see you have joined the lines with good mechs and builds, after a bit of time you will notice your damage numbers start to climb.

I look forward to meeting you on the battlefield.

Orions feel horrific? Blasphemy! The onion is amazing, ac20 and 4 srm 4s, it's a brawling beast.

Generally any combo of mechs that have armor quirks, can go 70+, and have good sustained damage work well in groups. You can overrun clan positions. My favorite for hot or close maps is a deck of mad-3r, whm-6r, ctp-k2, bsw-p2 all with 2lbx10 and medium lasers. I'm saving up for some roughnecks.
