It's been shown in studies that 90% of people think they're the top 10%.

So Chances are nine out of ten players feel like they have to carry everyone up Mt. Tryhard, because they're sooooo elite at the game. :Dc

Most of the time your winning or loosing depends on how many of the opposing team compared to your team thinks they can carry harder and decide to rush in. Critical mass of poor decisions on either side.

Well there is that, and then there is a tier 1 player playing a match with a player in a stock locust, or so it seemed when spectating, and several players that were of the "shooting at rocks" variety ( or using sticks, not sure ). Something went wrong that MM session , hard to say exactly what.

I don't think I'm top 10% anything.

I'm a bit better than average, at best. And I still facepalm spectating games I die early enough in.

I feel like we have a chance at winning, no matter my performance, up until it becomes 2-9 my team losing. I mean, you can still lose when you (and another on your team) really carry hard.

well i certainly never said i was in the top 10%.. Personally i think as far as the player population goes, i am probably just outside of the top 1/3 of the folks playing on average.. My guess a good few thousand players that regularly play are better than me, and some are a lot better..

But that doesn't mean when i see top leader board guys and get a chance to fight um doesn't mean i haven't taken them on! And yup, got the best of um a few times too!

I was looking at the event we just had, and most of my wins were coming when i was performing well. Sure a few didn't, but it just feels like i got a better chance of wining if i do. that said, I feel bad for those folks that carried me when i started, boy was i bad lol.

The thing is, there are ~35k monthly players with at least 10 matches. So all you have to do to be in the top 10% is achieve rank ~3500 on the leaderboards.

I was at ~2300 season 13 for avg match score, so I was top 10% for a while. I dropped back down again when I stoped tryharding in my Cyclops and started playing with my Roughneck and Highlander which I freshly bought both and was playing with stock for a little while (My God Highlander stock is paaaaaaainful).

Just from my experience playing mostly mediums, I find that I would win far more often if I put up "mediocre" damage (about 300) and 2-4 kills secured than if I go out of my way to yank 900+ damage and 8 kills.

My theory is that it has a bit to do with being one of the guys in the front setting up good firing lines which motivates other people to not sit and hide so much. You can do a ton of damage doing alphas from cover, but set up more efficient killing by kiting covers and forcing targets into bad locations.

I don't know, man. Sometimes I can get vaped at the begining of the match with 40 damage and my team still wins and other times I can lay the enemy team low with 7 kills and 1000+ damage and still lose. I don't often feel that I am just going to lose every time if I don't personally perform above average.

It doesn't matter how good a player is in PUG matches, eventually matchmaker will do its best to get you to 1.

MM does not randomly pair players. Multiple stats are used to pair players and teams. The really good players can stay above this "1" and they will hit their wall wherever it falls.

Playing a team game with at least one other player over teamspeak absolutely changes the ballgame. I'm talking strictly random PUG matches here. This is where I play is random because I enjoy the challenge but the frustration does get to me at times. I want a challenge but not get stomped.

Yes, a decent player will carry but there is a point that one players carry is simply not enough based on the teammates paired with in a PUG game.

No player, no matter how good, can take on a whole team of at least average (not below average) players. Heat and time limits a player and every little swipe and scrach adds up. It doesn't have to be full on alphas, just accumulated scratches. They have so much armor, one only has so much time, heat and health.

This is a team game and great individual scores are because your team was good enough to be the better team, yet not good enough to take all the kills and damage.

I personally feel the higher the W/L ratio of a particular mech, the more lopsided the loss until MM has gotten you as close to 1 as possible. Eventually every player playing PUG matches will hit a wall, not necessarily because of personal skill but because of matchmaker pairing.

You may have hit your wall and MM is doing its thing to get you close to 1 as possible so you may be seeing some lopsided losses on your end right now.

I'm getting absoulty destroyed in wins in my Ember (my best mech right now):
https://docs.google....dit?usp=sharing

4 wins out of about 40 games. I am averaging about lance position 1.2 over these games becaue of my kills and my damage done in this mech. I am losing the game by an average of about a 5 mech differential. It doesnt matter what I do, its just the way MM is.

This may be what is happening to you. Just take a breath and realize that it might not be you, it may be the MM algorithm.

You will be able to tell if you are a help or a hurt to your team each game by whether you place in the top or bottom half of your lance. That is really what you should focus on. MM will make you pull your hair out otherwise.

Wins / Losses 8,100 / 3,182

I am beloved by the MM, accumulate wins without doing anything.

It might just be a statistical thing. If you have a good game your team is that much more likely to win. When I get 3-5 kills my team usually wins. Of course if they do something stupid like all of them take the tunnel, or go to the E-5 hill on River City, there is nothing you can do to save them.
