Please Tell Me About Match Leaving Mechanics

Do I not get paid for what I did in the match? Do I get more if I stay and spectate the match?
I've been googling and I've found different threads from every year from 2012 onward and I have no idea what's true because of patches.
So how does it work? If I die in a match do I have to get punished and sit there watching?

How much are you expecting to get? I get about 110k on average. I think many people get much more, but that's about as much an average player should get at minium.
Oh, nowadays my overall average has raised to 130k. Considering it was around 110k-115k for like 5k-8k- games my latest average must be closer to 150k. Still 110k is good goal to aim.

Specifically, the only things you do not get are what you have not earned yet.
For example, say you worked hard to kill someone, but they lived.. and you died.
If someone else kills him while you're in the game, you get the credit for kill most damage and a kill assist.
....But... if you left, well it wasn't attributed to you and thus you don't get it because when it goes to give it to you, it instead goes to "No Name" the placeholder for "Ain't nobody here to get it."
Basically any kill assists not yet earned since the enemy isn't yet dead is all you'd miss out on.
The game is somewhat dumb in that it awards the credits to a player position, i.e. 3rd player on Team 1.. rather than "Canned Beans."
If said player isn't there to get the award when it is awarded, you don't get it. The exception is end of match stuff win/loss rewards (and why it's an exception is unknown. Perhaps it is just how the "award" system is coded that is the problem? Whatever the case, the game used to broadcast when people got things and such, "No Name" was common; in the past if the pilot disconnected and you killed him, you killed "No Name". Now it's "No Pilot" but the core issue remains the same.)

So unless you shot and hit every single enemy before dying, there's no need to wait. (If you did, the payout's almost 70,000 minimum and THAT is worth waiting a few extra minutes. Assuming your team succeeds in killing every single one of them.)

I know I got better by watching team mates after I got killed.

From what I've read, this is to prevent someone from farming kill assists and not actually playing the game.
Join a match, wave an ER Large Laser across as many enemies as possible, run in and die, leave game. Switch mechs. Repeat.

Don't think of it as punishment, think of it as learning. Spectating teammates can be a good way for newer players to learn the game or older players like me to learn how to use some unfamiliar mechs (or get unusual build ideas). It's also good as a second set of eyes if your teammate is hunting down the last one or two mechs (especially ECM mechs) and either doesn't notice the mech in the distance one or can't call his teammates because he's busy fighting an ECM mech. If you're spectating his cockpit you can tell the rest of your team what grid you're in to get them to help.
Being able to appreciate both your teammates' and the enemy's late game tactics can provide you with some knowledge and experience so when you're in a similar situation you have something to call upon and can make an educated guess as to what the enemy might be doing.
During a match dead teammates can provide good information if they're observant - whether a mech might be out of ammunition, what part of an enemy mech is showing internals so you can fire at that spot the second you encounter the mech, how many and/or what kind of enemy mechs are still alive, advising the other teammates on game mechanics ('gotta start capping or they'll win', or 'last mech's capping gamma', etc.)
Unless I get killed very early and it looks like the match is going to be a drawn out affair I'll stick with the match and find a teammate or two who's in a good position and watch them work. I'll call out mechs remaining in game modes where mech count isn't at the top of the screen (our team first, then enemy; for example if we're up a mech I'll write 5v4 if we're down I'll write 4v5) and if I see an enemy running a familiar build I'll try to provide knowledge of its strengths and weaknesses.
Watching the tactics of teammates who are able to stay alive during the match while still engaging the enemy can be an effective way to learn how to stay alive yourself in future matches so in time you'll be the mech a new player is spectating and learning how to stay alive for the late game.

Can you post something from the devs stating you get all rewards, including kill assists?

You can test it like I have. Kill assists are the easiest to do the test with.
Here are mine. So I played two ERL Mist Lynx, started with 279 904 097 cbills. I swiped everyone I could see several times, then kinda charged in to deal little damage and die.92 damage does gives about nothing and so does 1 assists. Of course I got most of the scouting rewards too but likely not all, as some had ECM.
Then I exited and after little waiting I had 280 006 235 cbills. A gain of 102 138. So that's only possible with about 12 assists as our team killed all and win. Also I gained some GXP because I happened to get littlest helper archivement too.

Never tested it...but to make it easier you should also state the rewards on each acheavement so he can calculate if this is as you say or not. (tried to do this several times but could not get conclusive results)
For the sake of keeping things plain and simple do not get killed early and stay in match after your dead, quickplay matches are short enough anyway.
Also what has to be stressed out is that leaving a game you where killed in early is actually pretty careless since you could at least jump from mech to mech and learn something when you are a new one or even if you are not new jump from mech to mech, get a sense of battlefield situation and warn your team mates about it.
Last but not least....farming aka suicide attacking/scratching each enemy to get assists to farm c-bills is illegal.

I updated my post with the test I made yesterday, I just wanted to confirm what I thought. That's how pretty much all games work, it's really odd to expect anything different.
But it's perfectly conceivable that originally the system was like some people have desribed, because PGI has many numerous really odd things, like in FP when you have a team but you don't get an enemy team and you will get a ghost drop, that you actually had to drop down to the empty map and shoot down some silly balloons. How can anyone who makes a living by making games think up such a mechanism. Sure they have fixed it now but I've seen it myself and I've never played any beta version of this game.
Here is explonation of what each event is. Some are obvious but some less so.
https://mwomercs.com...-get-xp-and-cb/
The initial post has the explonations and old obsolete numbers. Last post seems to have correct current numbers.
They are very easy to figure out from your own rewards. Look from right how much you gained from a particular thing, like kill assists 105000 cbills, then see from middle how many kill assists you got, 30, and divide to get 3500 cbills per kill assists.(example from FP, they are all the same )

That can't be right, since in the game it's still displayed as you while you're not connected (in the tab screen, EOG stats, etc. or in disconnected mechs that aren't dead yet) and in your mechbay it offers to let you rejoin the match you quit even if you're already dead. It still keeps track of who you are.
I could see it being done deliberately (although later posts suggest that is isn't) but there's no way it would be a technical limitation.
