1) Satisfying work
2) The hope, if not the experience, of success
3) Social connection
4) Sense of meaning
Regarding game design, here are the four defining traits of a (good) game:
1) A clear (and reasonably-reached) goal
2) Clearly-defined rules
3) Clear feedback system
4) Voluntary participation
I've read this book a number of times and I've half a mind to send my copy to PGI. I won't say anymore because I could write forever about my thoughts on all the changes to MWO I've seen in light of what this author articulates so well about gaming but I thought I'd at least drop this much into the Forum Sea for anyone interested. The psychology behind what makes a good game and how to carry over that data/knowledge/wisdom into other aspects of life is definitely interesting to say the least. It's a higher page count and fewer pictures than Mist Lynx pilots are used to but we like it anyway.
