According to Steam, the Steam launch added & partially moved 4k players, and right now stable at around 2k.

I am assuming there's a large number using the MWO client.

Are there other player stats?

According to Russ (take that with a grain of salt), Steam users are the minority. And there are about 25000 players in Steam who play at least once every two weeks. That number is relatively stable for the last few months.

There were 34,042 different accounts that played at least 10 QP matches last month.

From what I've seen its lower than that, closer to 20k with a downward slope over the last year. I don't consider 10 games truly active users, I lean more toward 100+ games being a better determination of game health. That's only 25 matches a week.

Exactly. Players playing the game for a bit on a Sunday afternoon and don't touch it again for another two weeks are technically active, but... Yeah. Just technically. Same for those that download the game, play through the cadet bonus matches and leave.

Not that 20k is bad (I'm really lacking a good frame of reference here), but the 35k seems like hogwash to me.

Someone is feeling important.

Even if the population was only 10% of what it currently is (see below), do you understand how insignificant and irrelevant you (or me) as an individual are?
If you are done, go away. No one cares if you do or not. Please don't annoy us with useless narcissism statements.

More than enough to sustain the game, I think.

I've played MMOs with less than 5K *TOTAL* registered accounts, average population of 750 players active at any given time, and those games lasted for at least a decade.

More players would always be good, but the sky is not falling and the game is not dying.

Even if we round up the numbers to a nice 50k, it's not a large number. Explains a few things.

Running into the same players over and over tells you everything you need to know about "active" population.

More importend than the actual playerbase is the amount of paying customers.

Because you can have 1 Mio players but if only 100 of them pay the game goes down (out of money).

This.

Even more so with a Free To Play model.

It's not the number of active players that counts, it's the revenue the devs get to keep the plug in.

Some of the comments on these types of threads never fail to amuse me. Talk about rose tinted glasses.

Thursday is our unit's usual drop night, and we managed to get a 12 man lumped together to try and get a planet near Terra. That was all fine and well until multiple ghost drops, and waiting....Good god the waiting. Waited at least 25-30 minutes on the times we did get in. And when we did, it ended up being the same groups, which thankfully we usually handled. Grateful a few of the guys in my unit have a couple former service members and they have a few tales to make that wait more bearable. But stillllll, FW is fricking ghost town on a Thursday, a premium playing night? A 12 man... A 12 man, not a 4 man, not an odd group.... A full 12 man team ready to play. Screw that.

Makes you wonder if the MM adjustment screwed something up on the FW side, even though they said it was for QP only.

Never seen a game that is more difficult or frustrating just to fricking play
And I have played many, many a game.

i would like to know where you all are getting these 20k numbers from? from my observations of the game that not even close to the amount of players playing the game , and created accounts dont mean squat for a f2p model for showing how many actually playing the game

Posted Image I hate to break this to you but FP doesn't have a MM, it never did.
