I still use a standard engine, 5 ML and an AC 20 on my CTF-1X. I tried out a LFE but i kept ending up with too much spare tonnage or slots left over. Assault tier armor + shield arms means most mechs dont stand a chance trying to brawl vs it. Wish I could use IS mechs in FP, they are so much easier to use compared to my clan mechs with bad hitboxes and paper thin armor.

My best mech can't even take any of the new tech. The hardpoints just aren't there for assult class weapons. Of course it doesn't need any of that. Occasinally I've used LAMS or taken light probe to easier target UAVs.

I have to agree that the vast majority of mechs (on clan at least) didnt see much benefit from new tech (and suffered in many regards due to nerfs to quite a few weapons like the cLPL and cSPL).

Pretty much all my competitive clan mechs are running a combination of ERMLs and gauss rifles, uacs, or heavier lasers like LPLs, ERLLs, or the new HLL (the one exception). ATMs are fun (and in my opinion obsolete LRMs entirely) but i wouldnt consider any mech using them to be competitive on any level whatsover despite the unique ability to deliver 144 damage in less then a second in optimal range (no ams ofc). HLL is the one weapon that i have found extremely useful though, it gives you the ability to get useable alfa out of but 2 hardpoints. 36 isnt stellar, but the best you could do before the HLL out of just 2 was 26 with the old LPLs and every bit counts when the ability to do more damage in a single poke is often more valuable then sustained DPS or rate of fire (cooldowns are almost universally pointless unless you sit there and facetank, so personally i wouldnt mind if lasers got lower rate of fire).

IS side there are 3 things that are huge really, the LFE, light ferro , and the ERML. The first 2 are pretty much free upgrades for quite a few mechs. Anything that used a STD and didnt have something like a triple ac-5 ST or dual shotys can pretty easily swap the old STD and gain free tonnage and or speed, and a few mechs that had to run an XL because a STD way way too heavy may be able to get survivability for a far lower tonnage requirement. Light ferro is similar, there are quite a few mechs (at least for me) where i have like 12 or so slots sitting around and could add a free heatsink, or where i could really use a few slots and have 1-2 tons i could easily give up for those slots and a better build in the long term. The final thing is teh ERML, which really bridges the gap between the lighter medium class lasers and the heavy ones giving IS a weight efficient weapon that can compete against clans in mid range combat (the ML simply didnt have range to complete at 400-500m, and the LPL is simply too heavy to be boated in large numbers). Pretty much like the clan ERML but less alfa (expected of IS tech), the staple weapon in the game right now just like how clan has always enjoyed the ERML and its ability to do well in almost any situation.

Other then that, most of the tech is pretty mediocre, RACs have very lousy killing power against anyone who isnt caught in an open field or doesnt understand to shield their components, MRMs are a joke (spread all over like nothing else, SRMs are 100% superior if you have the hardpoints to support at least 2 of em), uac-20 is extremely niche (spread and jamming), uac10 is nice but not necessarily much better then old tech, HPPCs are also nice but hot as hell (yeah you get the ability to do 30 PPFLD, but low velocity, and few mechs can run em well). ATMs are situational, too situational and have too many hard counters. HMLs have terrible burn duration, and they dont even have range to justify it (HLLs at least have crazy high alfa and more then useable range), HSL is even more extreme example, the range is so short you are putting yourself at extreme risk. And im not sure why im even commenting on them, micro weapons are WORTHLESS until PGI releases some super light mech with a crapload of energy hardpoints (piranha perhaps).

My fav build is still this:

You can drop the ams for more ammo or different lasers.

Good hunting,

It will also fit light ferro for an additional .5 ton weight savings. I tried out a similar build mine lacked the AMS and had the Light ferro armor (5 tons LBx ammo and 12 DHS)

Understandable, as you lose a torso E hardpoint mounting LFE with an AC/20. AC/20+4 ML can go with light ferro and a 340 LFE to get this: http://mwo.smurfy-ne...e45c4183a753574
