Dropships, Your Mechs, and Your merc unit! Own one today!

Well Ok maybe not ^THAT^ but you generally get the idea.
A semi suggestion, for Big merc units who have some extra cash and are tired of the constraints/costs of commercially owned drop ships, maybe a chance to buy your own.
Standard drop ships come with a fee, and due to them having to carry other things around, you don’t always have ‘as much’ room as you might like for spare ammo and armor. So what do you do? Buy your own drop ship, and for a small (phenomenal) initial purchase fee and a upkeep cost, you can have a whole drop ship available to you. (maybe have like a leopard class ship available at first and eventually work up to an overlord?)
This is just a rough idea really. Perhaps a commander could have access to a load out as well which is a grid layout of the floor space and you can ‘drag and drop’ items onto it to work out what your taking. Each item has a weight to it as well so not only do you have space concerns but weight too.
This might also be considered too complicated to incorporate but it’s just a thought.
(here is a roughed up picture I did quick to kind of show how it might work. its supper rough.
But the idea is maybe that an atlis would be 5x5 set of blocks while amo are 1x1 and light mechs being 2x2 and so on. )

I think that would be a good idea, though I wouldn't say go up too an Overlord but have the commander customize his Dropship to his or her specifications. Maybe different Factions have different dropships, perhaps a Union for Davion and Leopard for Steiner?

I don't think you should see drop ships as part of the combat, but maybe as a prestige thing? or to get more form contracts as transport is no longer a factor for the hiring faction...

Spend lot of money once to save some little amount from all later contracts... Hmm. But it can ulock access to some "only for dropship owners" contract type.
Also DropShip can be useful for some planetar controle things - let's say grants some tactical advantage, kinga orbital reconnaisance or let all mechs start at one point instead a droppod random spread.

From the sounds of it they want to get something playable out there that will be PVP with mechs only at the beginning with expanded options later on, IF these expanded options cost real money then I for one will not be able to experience them.

Perhaps ownign a Dropship would give you a bonus when bidding on contracts. As the House you're fighting for wouldn't need to supply support in and out of sytem, you get a higher profit out of the same money. So you can bid lower than other merc units and still make more money. It would be interesting if you could pay for the Dropship over time, and if you got behind on payments, a Bountyhunter contract might be placed on your unit.

That is an awesome idea, if the Devs aren't the Bounty Hunter then that could be a Lone Wolf contract too.

This other cargo they carry takes up space and weight wich could reduce how many mechs you can take in, as well as spare ammo and armor.
I think if its a prolonged fight, the abuility to do simple repairs on the battlefeild would be awsome and a DS can provide it as well as a protected 'spawn point' if spawning is implimented (I hope not but if it is)
uhm.. another benafit i suppose could be that (if you are going into a large battle) you may not have to slipt tonnage so to speak and all your guys get in on one DZ rather then having to hit two and so your team starts all together.

that is great and all, but unless you own a dropship your not making it away from your jumpship and or still have to pay dropship fees. Also, if your mechs are too damaged, most Dropship captians wont let you laod those mechs onto the ship due to fear of a reactor meltdown while mid travel. XP

maybe saves mechs about to be scrap,
Im not saying they are indestructible ,but very hard to kill, and they mount a few weapon sys also. and they need to be limited to where and when, how may pickups and drops.
Wouldn't it be cool for the commander to deploy Mechs across the map or stage a refuel repair spot for a long mission? how about a strategy that goes south, wouldnt it be nice to have to fight your way into the dropship to save your mech from becoming someone elses salvage?
