Mfw people don't even know they're running the meta here anymore, then flaunt about how they don't run the meta while simultaneously acting like they have an understanding of the meta. I need to just go ahead and join a large competitive unit and move to their forums or something.

Current meta is simultaneously boating SRMs and LRMs, preferably in a Catapult, right?

Dual HPPCs aren't THAT bad.

I don't tend to think about whether or not a build is "meta" or not or even seek them out. I just try different things and play what I like. Some of my builds do end up being meta-ish I suppose but I think that's just more coincidental than anything.

As for the idea in the OP, I don't think we should bother. If such a system were to be implemented it would probably just be gamed, as others have pointed out. Plus I think we'd see a lot of arguments that the system was implemented poorly, the modifiers not good enough etc... so it probably wouldn't be considered a credible leaderboard to begin with.

And more importantly I think that the players that like using more lore-friendly or oddball mechs and builds probably don't care about the stats and leaderboards that much to begin with anyway.

You forgot 2xHPPC is 1 tonn less than 3xLPL, plus to that 1 tonn Targeting Comp brings +11.50 PPFLD per barrel... now double it up. 53 PPFLD crit-shot especially on barenaked structure Posted Image

speaking a foreign language for most video gamers these days. Very very few believe in giving themselves a handicap anymore. Used to be a point of pride (and Hubris) to do so.

When I do see comp tier players in "non optimal" mechs though (and there are actually a few out there who like it) I do respect it a lot more than when someone uses the metamech of the month then wants to brag about how amazing they are. (Mind you in actual comp on comp play, I totally expect em to use the best tool available).

Well that (and omni pod swapping) is about the only explanation for them claiming the motherfrikking Summoner Prime is an "overperformer".... *SMH*

No Russ and Chris. it's not. Summoner Prime (I) with Loyalty ST Pods were your overperformers, if any actually did "overperform".

Leaderboards killed it. Prior to that you could just play what you wanted. Now your stats are visible to everyone and so you risk 'losing status' if you're not winning and maxing KDR.

Leaderboards functionally killed playing the game as anything but stat-mining for most players.

I always play what I want. Except what I want are almost 99% considered a meta mech

2x HPPC vs 3x LPL
30 damage vs 30 damage
29 heat vs 21.75 heat
5s cooldown vs 3s cooldown (3.67s inc. duration)
80-540m vs 365m
8 slots vs 6 slots
20 tons vs 21 tons
6 DPS vs 8.16 DPS
1.03 DPH vs 1.38 DPH
0.3 DPS/ton vs 0.39 DPS/ton
5.8 Heat/s vs 5.94 Heat/s

Honestly? It depends on what you want, FLD with a chance to miss, or hitscan with a (short) duration.

I tend to use a single HPPC in builds, except those which have nothing but 2x HPPC and a 'mechload of DHS.

What I want is to win. I enjoy winning more than losing. I realize that the politically correct thing is for me to consider losing just like winning and to not want to win because that means someone else has to lose...

but **** that. However I can win pretty well with a variety of builds. Just that Deathstrike.... well, it makes winning easy.

This is gonna be a novel idea so please bear with me. How about you play what you want when you want (Unless you are on a comp team) and just try to have fun doing it? I personally don't like a lot of builds but my feels are not relevant to your fun. I may grimace at that LRM atlas on my team but that doesn't have any effect on my personal performance or growth. In other words, play what YOU like and worry about having fun and growing rather than worrying about what some rando is using. What you eat won't make me s**t ijs. "Much ado about nothing" Fun thread though. :D

and as predicted became the basic tool to prove who's "right or wrong"... dude I saw your stats you don't even know what's up..... shut up scrub you only have a 1.5 KDr... and you haven't even played in a month! What could YOU know about a balance issue that's been ongoing for 5 yrs?

Well to be fair... If I see someone saying that something is OP when their KDR is less than one and their AMS is also low, its pretty clear that they are just being outplayed... Sorry if that hurts feelings, but that's just the way it is. If you can't play well, no one is going to take your complaints about something over performing seriously..

I used to do really well in my Mist Lynx even before new tech and the Mist Lynx G omnipods became available. Those things made it better, but I did well in it before with just 4 Small Pulse Lasers.

Proving, once again that the truth hurts. If anything, we need more detailed stats to show people are actually doing something in a game beyond "fun" builds and extended nose-picking sessions watching the rest of the team burn.

So here's the problem -

that's not totally unreasonable. Yes, there's a lot more to someones performance and understanding of balance than their stats but it is relevant.

The smart choice would be to have stats only reflect for comp queue and have a literal 'ranked' queue where stats are tracked. Then leave QP as it is.

Right now I'm having a lot of fun in an Annihilator with 4x AC2s, 2xRAC5s. That and the only MRM build I've found I enjoy - a Marauder with 2xMRM30s and 5xmediums. It's an 86 pt alpha and brawls like a beast. However neither is as good at driving wins and kills as my gauss+laservomit MKII.

But one also does not have to be a Comp Player to understand Balance. In fact several Comp players (as with every group) either very poor actual understanding of balance or a very specific agenda to cater to their preferences, etc. Good reflexes doesn't neccesarilyl correspond to understanding how things work, nor do poor reflexes keep one from doing so.

And when you basically see certain players say "Look you only have a 2.7 KDr I have a 6 so anything you say is invalid".. sorry bro, I'm calling bullcrap.

Don't get me wrong there are folks who are demonstrably bad, but when one uses KDr, etc to simply shut down a conversation... sorry it doesn't demonstrate that mr Compy actually has a clue about balance, either.

Yes mr 5 year vet who is still tier 5 and has a .3 KDr probably doesn't really have a strong enough grasp to know what's up. Nor does mr New Kid on the Block. That's not what I'm talking about and you know it.

MWO is a mediocre developer's tryhard attemp to bring battletech to PC-gaming, and tries to please the great mediocre audience failing to please everybody.
I don't anymore know to whom this game is directed to.

I think it went from a dog chasing it's own tail to an ouroboros, TBH. Spent so long running in circles undecided who to cater too (though end of the day, no matter how poorly they did it, the default has always been to cater to the Comp crowd, just rather poorly. But's it's Russ's obsession with turning MWO into an Esport (while doing so ....poorly) that has hamstrung the game since Launch, IMO)
