#2. Least for me, there is absolutely nothing for me to spend my real $$$ on. the Mech packs don't change anything for me. I don't need more variants that can be very similar to others. I don't meta play so I don't need some exacting perfect variants to play and have fun.
#3 FW has always been crap. it serves no purpose in a game with such a small community of players and lets face it, there aren't enough people who want to play in organized groups in order to make it work. It also takes too long. If FW just turned into a quasi QP with 15 minute battles and maybe 2 drops and not 4, maybe more would play it but you would also need to remove a lot of the group functionality.
Like any game the gameplay itself is usually similar throughout the games life. that isn't a bad thing. And like other games objective based game play usually boils down to kill everything anyway.
Things could change for end game stuff with solaris. If you have a place where people can do things without needed groups that will thrive. Unfortunately this will be a haven where unless you are using specific meta builds you'll have no chance.

Don't blame the devs for the "2-3 maps you get to play." The match participants vote for maps - blame them for their lack of imagination.
I am going to blame the people who designed those terrible maps, and not choose them over the least terrible option
Imagination doesn't make Forest any less terrible

but not everyone hates that map. Each map has people who like it, don't like it, are meh about it. So you deal with it and play it anyway....
If you can't find fun in the game because you had to play a map you didn't like then find a new game. Again, this is why map voting should just go. I want to play all the maps, good or bad.

How about we make a vote
Who enjoys Forest?
With poor visibility, terrible wastes of space, and so few ways to play it?

I don't mind Forest Colony. Only map that I really don't like is Polar Highlands and that's mostly just because if you get NARCed on it you're pretty much just dead no ifs, ands, or buts because there is just nowhere to hide from indirect fire.

In my heart anyhow.
I log into the boards out of sheer curiosity now, don't reply as much as I used to, and I've gone from playing almost every night for years to playing 2 nights a week, to finally hardly playing at all.
Even seeing my mates online playing isn't enough to get me to commit to starting the game up.
Now, the final insult, I'm torn between wanting MW5 to be a success versus it crashing and burning so PGI can feel the pain too.

I will agree with you about the maps.... it's time that PGI does something about it -- always the same damn maps until I can get a 10 or 11x multiplier and then wait for one of the rarely picked maps. Map choice has just reinforced people building mechs with certain maps in mind unable to cope with the harm that randomness does to the precious-little-snowflakes' playtime.

I can only speak for myself, but I'm bored to tears. Even the new weapons injection didn't bring me back for any length of time. The biggest blunder PGI has made is the year off from map development. That, coupled with the map voting system, has really killed things for me.
Here's hoping the new maps and Solaris VII pan out.

Grey Death are one of the, could be only merc unit left in SRoT.
That's a big unit, and when I was in it, it was rare you'd get a full 12. I left, because I wasn't active, and it didn't seem fair for possibly new members would have to pay extra cash to join.
The unit I joined after a few months of solo to group with old friends, is again mostly inactive, except on Friday nights.
People are still playing, people are still paying, but you can tell the frustration, because of a lack of progress, and map variation is making people play a lot less.
Frankly I'm surprised i'm still around, and throw money at things.
Lastest mech I bought because i'm curious about the new cockpit item. Zero interest in the mech but add the three mech bays to the deal and the extra stuff together is better value than shelling out on MC.
It's almost certainly my last purchase, I rarely drop lol.

i mostly hate forest because of the higher frequency of crashes it causes than the other maps. getting a new video card and psu soon so that should mitigate any crashes i have. but considering how old this game and its engine are thats a lot of money to spend just to keep the game running. current hardware could handle the job had the idiots who designed the card bothered to put in a connector to the psu rather than assuming the mobo would provide enough power. thing gets 60 fps fine but whoever the **** decided not to put in a psu connector needs to be shot.

And PGI has not budged an inch.
It's always all the same lack of ambition, drive, attention to detail, and only about getting it done in a minimally viable way.
I truly hope they step it up with MW5.. but honestly, after hearing about the lack of mech customization, I'm not optimistic.
Here's a thread of mine I dedicated to this very topic (on how PGI lacks the basic drive and attention to detail):

The second piece of wisdom enjoy what you have when you have it. Back in swg we always wanted more because players like myself saw how far that game could go. Well before we knew it the license was killed and rather short sighted game replaced it, swtor, that catered to a younger generation. Needless to say nothing that has come out since, has even come close to the depth of customization we had in swg or immersion in the star wars universe.
My point is MWO cooked? Or are people busy right now with more important items? Who the heck knows, but I would be careful before labeling a game "dead".
