Again, many of us aren't brawling pilots.........
I haven't used an Alpha in 10 months of playing MWO? Why would I since I don't have brawling mechs? Several of my friends specialize in recon and don't have brawling mechs. A few others now, since LRMs have been universally nerf'd and nerf'd again and re-nerf'd just recently with a quirk reduction, don't brawl and are playing with ATM mechs.... Support players.
Yes, you are correct in your assessment but, there is a larger group of players that go several matches in a row with no kills.....they get all sorts of assists and KMDD but, few kills. Nor, will they or do they own brawling platforms...
That's where I see the OP coming from. It would take me 20+ games to see 5 kills and I don't have that time for MWO anymore.
Food for thought, eh?

You don't have to brawl to get those kills. Simple mid range build with 7-8 CMPL Clan heavy mech can do it easily. Even with LRMs, 1 kill per match is very possible, as long as you know how to position yourself.

Nah, the component and damage ones were easier.
This is pretty easy, though. I can see it as a problem for people who only play a handful of matches a day, but it's no headshot.

Actually, after my 6th match seconds ago, I'm at three kills in my MDD..... Were they honest kills? Sort of.... 1 was an outright "last bullet". Another was chasing a fleeing light with streaks (and, I have 4 streak launchers). The last was another "stolen kill" with streaks.... Now, there were 8 KMDD's in these 6 matches.
I'm done for the day; my MWO time is up...... Not 5, even with great teamates since they were all wins.....
So, for most of us "average" potato players, it isn't about positioning.... I was exactly where I needed to be "supporting" directly the Assaults and brawling heavies.... No, I'm not changing a play style to a laser vomit mech just for a event.....
The point is, sometimes, events just aren't for the average players and since the prizes aren't any too valuable, no harm is done.

...Huh. That was unexpected.
Guess I'll go vacuum the living room now?

You refused to change your playstyle so there is no room for complaints. And BTW, not all average players are LRM boats. Plenty of average pugs can use lasers and ballistics just fine.

If he'd had enough time to play more I have no doubt he would've gotten it. Which is less a comment on the event requirements than his ability to commit to finishing the event (whether self-imposed or by circumstance), because there's still a ton of time left for the event day.

Well, in most matches close to half the winning team scores no kills, 3 or 4 guys score 2 kills, and often there's one, maybe 2 that score 3 kills. Every now and again you see someone pull off 4 to 6 kills, and I've only seen 7 or more kills in a single solo queue match pulled off a handful of times in the thousands of matches I've been in.
A good player should be able to knock it out in 1 or 2 matches with his best mech, barring strange things happening.
An average player should be able to knock it out in under 10 matches, probably closer to 4-6 matches.
A below average player might need to dedicate 3 or more hours to the task, or resort to counter-productive vulture tactics that will cost his team the win but at least net him a kill or 2.
A truly bad player... well, good luck.
