In a more RPG atmosphere it makes sense to limit how fast and in general how you can modify a mech. IS mechs aren't omni mechs.rerouting the power and systems to change simple lasers around is a major headache. Teams of House engineers probably warn about doing it and pirates/merchs may have no choice but to take the risk.
I think it fits better to have those mechs appear on a market than allow players the ease we can change things in MWO. Also, they aren't going to shoot themselves in the foot by allowing it. Two different products for two different experiences.zzzz
MWO is STILL balancing weapons loadouts etc based on what players do and THIS game is still far from where it should be. If people want that in a single player game you will never see it hit market before WW3.
