The Awooolf is the Clan Assassin+1.

Only if it has the same bugged hitboxes as assassin does. Which we can't know right now.

What it might lose in hitboxiness, it makes up for in bigger payload. Half-size launchers compared to the Assassin, so six tons for launchers = six SRM 4 rather than 3 SRM 4.

Its also a roomier chassis given 7-slot endo/ferro and looks fairly compact. The Assassin and the Awooolf will definitely be the competition for their current dominant role, and given the Clantech, I'm favoring the latter.

At least the reinforcement variants can equip a 365 engine, which is more than enough to get to Jenner speeds.
For reference the Viper gets to standard light mech speed of about 140 kph with it's 320 engine. So it should be possible with the Wolf to mimic a splat Jenner-IIC with a bit more punch and better survivability but without JJ.

Oh, didnt noticed that they are Battlemechs :o Ok, thats great :D

Side note: Just watched Phil preview the various Nightstar camos. Some damn fine work on those.

Why is it so much smaller than the Assassin, in nearly every dimension? What's taking up the volume?

That's a questionable advantage. Out of my brief experience with all-srm Pahket, anything more than 4 launchers requires really good trigger discipline (or any trigger discipline for that matter). And the lighter your chassis is the more important it gets.

It would probably stand taller than the Assassin if its legs were fully stretched out.

Assassin is spindly. Check it front on, instead of side on. Wolf is a chunkier bodyplan.

Also, Wolf won't be as tanky from a natural damage spreading perspective. It can't be. The torso hit boxes of the assassin are, front on, far more compressed laterally. Results in narrower ST and CT hitboxes and, as a result, auto-spread of smear damage like lasers or missiles.

That said, Wolf will have the CXL advantage. Pretty much a wash there, I suppose. One thing that we will need to see is if the Wolf has the same sort of "deep step" the Assassin has, which also lets it shield its legs with its arms. 'Sin practically does lunges, which means leg shots often strike the arms, resulting in autospread on the legs, as well. That goes a long way to increasing the lifespan of a mech that light. Especially in scouting mode.

Even if it's going 4x4 (and packs in more HS/ammo) it's ahead of the game. No XL check, and it can either alpha harder, have more ammo endurance, or a bit of both. Plus, it's a smaller target.

YAAAAASSSS

Can't wait for this mech! This could possibly be the premier 40 Tonner for Clans. Love playing my Huntsman with JJ and Streak/ATM pop tarting (Light TAG ftw). Similar play style and room for different builds. That said there seems to be the least amount of buzz behind this mech of the 4 coming out Tuesday. It's also smaller/shorter than I thought it would be which is nice.

Run the Huntsman with 4 SRM 6 +Art and 4-5 ERML some time. Pretty easy to get good damage and it's fun. Does far more predicable damage than SSRMs. Also try 2 ERPPCs and 3-4 SRM 4s. fun at all ranges.

I run SRMs over Streaks 99% of the time. It's just in the Huntsmans case that paired with (light) Tag + (light) CAP + JJs + 360 Range of Clan SSRMS = it makes playing streaks fun for me. Also run 3 medium lasers for a little extra umph.

I was planing on getting the Special and Hero nightstar but that camo showcase makes me think otherwise.
