As stated on another thread, the first mech I ever played was the commando in mechwarrior 2 mercenaries. It had 3 medium lasers, an srm 6, and 180 srm 6 ammo.

I got the commando 1b and put 3 ml, an srm6, and 2 tons of srm 6 ammo (technically 200) on it which actually fit perfectly in place of the weapons I removed. It has a speed of 97 kph.

Just played a domination match (where you capture up to 5 points if that's the wrong name for it) on manifold and did better than I've ever done with my supernova 6 cerLLas assault mech (150k cbills or score, whichever is on the left thingy). Only about 200-300 damage, but it was interesting to troll enemies. I was suprised I didn't die. Got legged at the end of the match but still lived. Named the mech nostalgia. I think I'll probably have a good chance of doing well as long as I don't encounter a catapult named deadeye.

the 1B is a pretty kick *** little mech. A good match it can easily pull in 500-600 damage. It outruns most things, and can go toe to toe with an ACH. If you run into a locust it's toast if it doesn't boogie instantly.

They are a great little scout mech.

While i don't run as well in the DK, it's still fun but it is more of a poking play style. I have not run the 2D in a very long time, but been meaning too. A single flamer and some SRM's could be fun!

It's pretty fun going commando in a match.

That's Conquest, which gives many more cbills than the other QP modes.

I'm stuck in with the nostalgia version. I know ecm and stealth armor would probably be better, but this one was also cheap. Even pushing the engine to 110 kph wasn't too expensive.

Overall, going commando is incredibly liberating. The only downside is that you have to go commando if you go commando. So sweatpants or shorts are preferable.

Stealth Commando is fun. I've been doing some matches in it, and it's a blast.

Only problem is constantly running and hiding and tracking assaults leaves me very little time to beg the team to please, God, just move an inch, one bloody inch. And it's truly depressing to run out, kill an assault, get chased by 5 enemy mechs for 2 minutes, run back to your lines, and find that no one's moved, even the ones collapsed in a pile remaining in the same spot you left them 4 minutes ago.

But now I'm ranting about something else. Whoops.

You ever played Hawken? It would change your life.

I played it much later before it was bought out.

It played alot like a much faster paced MWO, with respawns, and required actual skill to play the game, and even the OP weapons/builds can easily be overcome by simply using the game's mechanics of flight and dashing to your advantage. When people dropcalled targets, things got really interesting. Since everyone is relatively fast, you call out what grid the target was at and watch it get swarmed or sniped from across the map.

Its too bad though, seems like it took a nose dive after the new dev team rolled in.

Felt like a pretty bog standard arena fighter to me. With the added benefit of being boring beyond belief and ugly and dull beyond words.

Seriously disliked that game. Just bad showing all around. Not surprised its PC version will be dead soon.

And MWO is somehow better?

Commando with Energy range quirks had the longest ERLL range in MWO for a time. It was around +40-50% for a while and was a great harasser. It is outclassed with any other light with JJs at this point.

Marginally. It's fun enough in burst, enough to distract me while I wait for other games to be released.

Hawken was not fun. In a way, it was like Battleborn - Offensively boring.

COM-1D had the MPL with crazy range bonus and it was great! Still a good mech:

Fun fact: the Commando in MW2: Mercs is actually the 2D, but you can customize it to have that loadout. Before getting rid of it for the Jenner D, i put a flamer in the head and had some fun killing Dead-Eye by overheat. Never sold that flamer, amazing against that ambush in the desert with those crystals (trap Awesome).

Then there's the Commando challenge to see if you can beat the campaign with just a Commando (ignoring missions where you're forced into mechs I.E. Stalker and stolen Kodiak).

Thing is that the commando 2d can't equip 3 medium lasers and an SRM 6 like the one in mw2 can. Though neither of them can equip jump jets either.

Yeah, i know. Just pointing out that the Commando model is the 2D. That's why we call them "fun facts".

I really love my 1B when I go out with 3 ERMLs and a MRM10. Its just so fun seeing peoples' reaction to the build, and how incredulous they get when they see it outperform the majority of the team.
