The shadow cat is there as a tonnage filler mostly, and you sure don't want to end up using it.

A good drop would usually see the winning team on their 2nd to 3rd mechs.

Our frequent opponents are EIVIL or IREX (the difference in the score is usually a few mechs).

That shadow cat is more of a last resort mech. :U

Against good teams this does not work

It might have been months and months since we went up against a good team. Not sure how you're frequently getting EVIL.. eurotime maybe? Lol anyways, like i have stated multiple times... this isn't a topic for ultra competitive drop decks, just general help. I can't even remember last time i used my fourth drop...

You're not supposed to use that shadow cat against a good team, you are supposed to finish the fight on your 3rd mech at the worst. :U

We had better matches during NA primetime against Kcom and EVIL some time ago (months actually) but lately it has just been pug farming. :U

hey Nag and Timby,

im totally against LRMs... but why are ATMs no good?
their short range use produces 3 dmg per missile...
effectively a more powerful version of SRM.
albeit more difficult to use correctly.

You can see by mine and timbys comments and the mech list of Russian clan wolves that LRMs and ATMs are absent. Now why they are absent in competitive drops is because you can't focus/aim the damage. But that's not why i don't recommend the for regular players. The real reason is that long range missile boats tend to not share damage. When you are dropping with other run of the mill wolfers people with LRMs/ATMs tend to stay in back waiting for locks. The means the other 11 or less players have to take the dmg from the enemy team. The less players who can share dmg mean the more likehood that someone will be taken out. Which means your team because more and more short of mechs. In a coordinated 12 man this is less of a scenario but i'm speaking purely out of random pug matches.

ok i understand. thats not the way i play ATMs though. what you said above is the equivalent of using ATMs as LRMs. which is just stupid.
I put ATMs on heavies and im at the front with the assaults cause i want to be in the 120-270m range to exploit 3 dmg per missile...

disadvantages of ATM:
flight trajectory of missiles (more effective only with a JJ mechs. SMN, NTG, HMN)
damage distribution by components
partially blocked by AMS
can be completely blocked by terrain
require target lock
too heavy
volley fire
can get into the teammates

Drop Deck depends on what the drop commander calls for.

I'm bringing a Timber Wolf, Ebon Jaguar, Linebacker, and Arctic Cheetah for brawl.

For range, it's the Hunchback IIC-A, Timber Wolf, Ebon Jaguar, and Adder.

Details on loadout are classified. :P

Lol i'm posting generic guidelines for generic pilots. You maybe very well indeed use ATMs correctly. You may also be an asset to your team with said ATMs. However, most players are not. If you are able to use ATMs AND be a team player then that's fine. Though you will find many units will not want you to bring those types of weapons into battle. Some do not care. When it comes to FW, i highly recommend you find a unit to drop with and learn from their experiences.

Had a drop caller ask for MG arctic cheetah's and we front loaded with ten of them with two MG shadow cats. Wiped out an entire wave battlemaster's and banshees without losing a single mech. it was totally awesome.

This wasn't a 12 man of HHOD right? Because any mech would work against them. But yes, drop decks are usually guidelines not hard set rules.
