Sooo stay with me here folks, this might sound rough but imo could be fairly fun!

A faction warfare event that does...

10 v 12

AND Stock mode only (and possible quirks).

I know this sounds like **** is about to hit the fan with alot of horrid stock builds out there (level 1 tech IS mechs? Oh boy!...) as well As probably more people skill trees would not help lore builds much...But what if for this special event just for fun. PGI has preset drop decks set up for each faction*(each House and Clan having signature mechs and play style)? All mechs either in stock or super stock builds with proper skills preset that are locked? Think of it like the World of Tanks Soccer game mode ect. Balance I think would be quite good if done properly and be fun. Give us a little fluff can go a long way ect.:D

A historical mode would be neat, but difficult to balance and harder to populate, I imagine.

Imo they run it for a week for a special event. Takes over FW entirely so queue is not to much an issue.

They give you the preset special drop decks so no one is fumbling for their mechs ect and would not override any current drop decks.

Also each drop deck is painted and decaled the faction camo's ect. (So not all olive green mechs running around)

You just killed the idea right there tbh. The niche subset of this community that likes lore builds, or wants to fight lore builds, or does stock nights is pretty darned small (as evidenced by the long running, but always small community of stock mech monday/wed fight nights --- of which I participated in a few).

If you turn off FP to cater to that subset of a subset, you're just driving away customers.

What you do instead is incentivize the lore-based FP via giveaways, boosters etc. And folks will try things simply out of curiosity. But trying to force it by turning off regular FP will piss of any number of those folks, which could kill player retention even further at this point.

Well I would assume they would do this event with good prizes to earn ect. Would want to make it fun and interesting and give good incentives for players to try it out. Not force sake of forcing.

Stock and TT values need to be burned. Leave those for single player BT games.

I can imagine an event that lets you only use trial mechs.. that sounds fun.. Especially if it would be lore-heavy..

Neg! But that is also why I said in some cases super stock builds by PGI, that still give credit to the stock build flavor ect. Things would be interesting I really think here, and pgi would select the drop decks not us. No one could min max the entire thing like now.

Each deck would reflect the factions fighting style and iconic mechs of that faction.

Examples.
Ghost Bear(close range brawl)
Kodiak-1
Mad Dog-A
Mad Dog-A
Viper-Prime/A

Clan Nova Cat (emphasis on long range.)
Super Nova
Nova Cat
Huntsman
Shadowcat

Just to name two, the options could be interesting to see what could be done(if pgi followed lore properly and did the right mechs to the right factions!)

Given the current state of Community Warfare (I refuse to call it "Faction Warfare" or whatever the current name is Posted Image), a week-long event is not going to be anywhere near as fatal as driving away customers. Who knows? It might even end up interesting.

Speaking to the wrong person, you are. I only care about the balance of the game. If some obsoleted and utterly stupid stock builds are sacrificed in the process, so be it.

Playing stock IS mechs sounds kinda miserable tbh.

Even if everyone else was in stock IS mechs it would just devolve into people bringing the handful of heavy mechs that have DHS, ok loadout, and full armour like the Grasshopper 5P. Also because MWO has double armour and structure than TT most stock loadouts have way less than full armour.

The problem with any stock builds mode is that many variants will not be viable because they will be incredibly badly designed.

Example : The stock mad dogs are extremely under armored. Many of the original clan designs were deliberately under armored as they were originally designed as NPC enemies.

Then you have stuff like shadow hawks. Because you know, a 5/8/3 medium with an AC 5 and LRM-5 is a great idea.

Shadow hawk stock builds are a bad idea.

Won't work. Most IS stock builds are horrible in MWO

Yeah but I like Battletech. I guess that's why I shouldn't play MWO...

Biggest problem is in Lore 10 v 12 = Losing for Inner Sphere, every single time.

5 v 8 if it's 3050-3067 era IS mechs vs Clans, comes close to parity. 5 v 12 if it's 3025 era IS mechs vs Clans.

10 v 12 was a number someone pulled out of their butts back when the Clan Invasion was announced, and has never had any basis in canon, reality, common sense.

Much as I would love it, on some levels, the mechanics, IMO just don't work out, especially in live fire. Numeric advantage snowballs things oddly in an FPS environment, that makes balancing asymmetrical unit sizes very difficult at best.

Also, what you'd end up with is everyone just running the most "meta stock builds available. Timberwolf D vs anything IS is going to get ugly. I'd love to see some tryhards prove their skill by taking a stock Hellbringer and making it happen, but we all know that the "better" you are the more averse to intentional handicap you are in this day and age, also.
